Wholesale electricity price increased, maximum 1,658 VND/kWh
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has just approved the average wholesale electricity price framework of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) for power corporations in 2018. Accordingly, EVN's wholesale electricity prices have all increased compared to last year. The question is whether the retail electricity price will increase?

Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh has just signed a decision approving the wholesale electricity price framework of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) for power corporations in 2018.
Specifically, the wholesale electricity price framework for 2018 will be applied according to this new decision, including the Northern Power Corporation with a maximum level of 1,255 VND/kWh and a minimum level of 1,185 VND/kWh (in 2017, the frameworks applied to this corporation were 1,173 VND/kWh and 1,117 VND/kWh, respectively).
Southern Power Corporation has a maximum price of 1,433 VND/kWh, minimum price is 1,389 VND/kWh.
For the Central Power Corporation, the maximum price is 1,282 VND/kWh, the minimum is 1,183 VND/kWh.
Also according to the decision of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Hanoi Electricity Corporation applies a maximum wholesale price of 1,516 VND/kWh, the minimum is 1,437 VND/kWh (in 2017, the price frames applied to this corporation were 1,414 VND/kWh and 1,358 VND/kWh, respectively).
Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City Electricity Corporation applies the maximum rate of 1,658 VND/kWh and the minimum rate of 1,593 VND/kWh. (In 2017, the rates applied were 1,551 VND/kWh and 1,506 VND/kWh, respectively).

Based on this average wholesale electricity price framework, the Ministry of Industry and Trade requires EVN to issue specific wholesale electricity prices for each power corporation according to current regulations.
The time to apply EVN's average wholesale electricity price framework for Power Corporations is from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018.
Mr. Dinh Quang Tri - Acting General Director of EVN said that EVN's wholesale electricity price for power corporations is slightly higher than last year because coal prices have increased, so EVN's electricity purchase costs have increased accordingly.
However, this is only an internal balance regulation between EVN and 5 power corporations, so the retail electricity price for people has not changed.
