Runner-up's family has 7 people infected with Covid-19 in Ho Chi Minh City
Runner-up Dang Thuy Giang received a positive result on July 24. In the following days, her husband and children were infected with Covid-19.
July 24 is an unforgettable day for Dang Thuy Giang. The runner-up received a positive result and the remaining 6 members of her family also contracted the virus in the following days. During 16 days of fighting Covid-19, the 7 members of their family experienced many emotions. Worry, confusion, then optimism, strength and happiness when their health improved.
16 days fighting Covid-19
Dang Thuy Giang said that on July 24, her neighbor tested positive. Thuy Giang was the first member of her family to be tested by the medical department. That day, she and her two eldest daughters were informed that they had Covid-19. In the following days, the runner-up's husband, two sons, and maid tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.
Dang Thuy Giang said she and her family were surprised to receive the results because they have been staying at home since Ho Chi Minh City implemented social distancing regulations. Her family did not even dare to go to the park in front of their house.
As soon as she received the results, the runner-up contacted the medical staff, but due to the overload, she and her family members treated themselves at home. The runner-up and her husband received the first vaccine shot on June 25. The maid had not been vaccinated yet, so the symptoms lasted longer.

“I and everyone, including the maid, stayed in separate rooms. No one came into contact with anyone. Every day I cooked and brought food to each room. Luckily, the children only had high fevers at night. During the first four days, when the children had high fevers, I constantly wiped them with warm towels to reduce the fever. The doctor told me not to let the children have fevers higher than 38 degrees Celsius. In the following days, the children gradually got better,” Thuy Giang toldZing.
She shared: “My husband and the maid were the most seriously ill. I followed medical instructions to use fever reducers, cough suppressants, and nasal decongestants. My family members and I gargle with salt water, spray our noses and eyes 6 times a day. During the first week, we steamed for 15 minutes every day. The whole family used warm water, absolutely no cold water."
The doctor advised the runner-up to drink warm water every 20 minutes to avoid a dry throat. “I eat a lot of protein and citrus fruits to provide vitamin C. Every morning, I give each person a vitamin C pill. I also urge everyone to walk around the room instead of lying still. Although I am very tired, I still try to walk on the treadmill for 15 minutes every day. My body is weak, so I walk slowly instead of running like before,” Thuy Giang shared.
The husband had the most severe symptoms in the family. He had a high fever, difficulty breathing, and pain in his neck and shoulders. He was tired and could not sit up.
Thuy Giang hid her Covid-19 infection from her parents to avoid worrying them. “Every day, when my parents video-call to ask about my health, I try to be cheerful and cheerful to reassure them. When my health is stable, I tell my parents. At that time, my parents are both surprised and happy,” she said.
Optimism and happiness are important
While following the news about Covid-19 across the country, the runner-up said she was quite worried. However, she did not let the worry affect her but kept her spirit optimistic and strong to be a spiritual support and take care of her family members. According to Thuy Giang, spirit is an important factor that helps her and the other 6 people overcome Covid-19.
"I always encourage myself to try harder. During those days, I had a bland appetite and nothing tasted good. But I still tried to eat and forced the members to eat and exercise. My children were also obedient, self-disciplined and listened to their mother," Thuy Giang said.
“The most worried person in the house is the maid. She lives far away from her family and is easily hurt. Every day I call to ask about her health and encourage her to eat well, be happy and optimistic,” she continued.

"Spirit is a very important factor. We reassure each other every day. That is the motivation for everyone to practice and eat harder," the runner-up said.
Currently, all members of the runner-up's family have recovered about 90% compared to before contracting the disease. Fighting the epidemic once made Thuy Giang even more vigilant and careful with Covid-19.
She and her family members still strictly follow disease prevention regulations, while improving their health by exercising every day, eating lots of protein, and supplementing with vitamin C.
Thuy Giang said she did not leave the house at all. The food delivered by the shipper was hung in front of the door, under the sunlight for about 10 minutes before being brought into the house.
“Currently, I remind my friends and everyone around me not to leave the house. I think I can order things online and when they are delivered, the shipper will hang the things in front of the gate. Then, I put on a mask and spray disinfectant on the bag before bringing it into the house," Thuy Giang said.
Dang Thuy Giang won the title of Miss Ao Dai 2016. After that, she has been less active in the arts to focus on her business and taking care of her family. Occasionally, she participates in some fashion and entertainment events.
