Should the family use 4G network or install fiber optic internet?

For households, fiber optic cable is still the top choice, solving the problem of service quality, access speed and price.

While waiting for the new apartment building to complete its infrastructure to install fiber optic internet, Mr. Trong Nam (Le Van Luong, Hanoi) decided to buy a 4G transmitter with a sim card for temporary use. "Since the high-speed 4G network has just been deployed, I registered for the highest package, 200 thousand for 10 GB to use in 30 days," said Mr. Nam.

"Compared to 3G, 4G is much faster, sometimes my wife and I thought there was no need to install fiber optic cable," he said. However, his family "burned" the remaining 10GB of data in just the first week. "My husband and I surfed Facebook and went online to work, but every night we turned on YouTube for 30 minutes to coax our children to eat, so the data ran out very quickly," he said.

Nam's family then had to adjust their 4G usage and gave up the idea of using it to replace fiber optic internet. "Now we just hope the building will quickly complete the infrastructure to pull the cable, because there are months when we have to register for 600 thousand for 4G but still have to be frugal when accessing the internet, it's very annoying."

The 4G network has just been deployed in Vietnam and has been continuously promoted recently. With a speed 4.5 times faster than 3G, this mobile network technology can hardly meet the Internet connection needs of families, especially with services that require large capacity.

Fiber optic internet is still the top choice for family needs.

Meanwhile, fiber optic internet has a clear advantage thanks to its fast, stable speed and especially unlimited capacity. "The reason why 4G cannot replace fiber optic is because today's content has high capacity, users 'consume' more bandwidth, and only fiber optic can meet this need at a competitive price," said a representative of an Internet Service Provider (ISP).

4G and fiber optic cable both allow users to access high-speed Internet, but the nature of each service is different. 4G was born to meet the need for connection while moving, ensuring mobility. Meanwhile, fiber optic cable serves users to access the network without having to worry about capacity. Therefore, for households, fiber optic cable is still the top choice, solving the problem of service quality, access speed as well as price.

"4G and fiber optic cables will develop in parallel and cannot threaten each other. However, the emergence of mobile broadband connection services will force fixed Internet providers to transform and upgrade their services, thereby bringing more benefits to customers," said a representative of an ISP.
