According to information on Express on September 21, the family of Ahmad Rahami - the suspect in the bombings in New York and New Jersey who was arrested on September 19 - was informed about the bombing before the incident happened.
The whereabouts of Ahmad Rahami's mother are also unknown, after it was reported that she had traveled to Türkiye just three days before the bombing. This further strengthens the belief that she knew about Rahami's actions in advance.
According to investigators, Rahami and his brother Mohammad attended several Islamic militant training camps in Pakistan. A photo taken in April 2013 shows the two Rahami brothers on a long trip to Pakistan and possibly attending training courses to become jihadists.
Days after Mohammad posted a pro-IS video on social media, Rahami's sister Aziza did the same under the name Masood Maymunah.
Both Ahmad Rahami's brother and sister posted numerous documents on Facebook calling for the abandonment of democracy and supporting the establishment of the so-called Islamic State by IS.
US security officials have not yet determined whether the suspect's brother and sister are still in the US, while there is information that they may have fled to Türkiye, Syria or Egypt.
Evidence of Rahami’s radical Islamist tendencies after his travels abroad has been confirmed by locals in New Jersey, who say Rahami suddenly switched to wearing traditional Muslim clothing after returning from Pakistan in 2014.
Rahami was arrested after a shootout with police on September 19 and has been charged with 10 crimes.
However, it was only recently that US security revealed that Rahami’s father had called the FBI to report his son’s actions two years ago. At that time, he accused his son of “misbehaving” and stabbing his mother in the leg. Court documents from 2014 also showed that Rahami had been charged with domestic violence.
