After the victory of the Vietnam U23 football team, many fake Facebook accounts impersonating the coach and players have sprung up like mushrooms.

According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Cuong - Admin of WhiteHat forum: "Fake accounts are created for the purpose of attracting likes, views, increasing the number of friends and followers. Later, these accounts can be converted into fanpages to sell products, causing trouble for users, or more dangerously, become a means of phishing attacks by hackers".

To increase the credibility, the authors of the fake accounts announced that they were the secondary Facebook accounts of players and coaches. The reason given was that the personal page had exceeded the number of friends, so the players switched to interacting on the new Facebook page. In addition, some people also took advantage of the personal information editing feature to fake the number of followers in order to deceive users.

How to identify fake accounts

Mr. Nguyen Huu Cuong - Admin of WhiteHat forum thinks that there are some basic ways to identify fake accounts.

The simplest way is to check the account creation time. If it is a newly created account, the possibility of it being fake is very high.

Next, check the profile picture. Fake Facebook often has a profile picture that is similar to the real Facebook, but the time of change will be recent. Users can click on the current profile picture of the Facebook account to check the update time. In addition, you can see the profile pictures used before, if it is not the real photo of the owner, it can be suspected that the account is fake.

Normal users will regularly post information on their timeline, sharing issues of interest about life, career, work, society... If the Facebook account does not have old posts but only recent ones, then this is likely a problem.

A normal Facebook account will have activities such as liking, sharing, commenting... on photos, posts and replying to comments of friends on Facebook. If an account only shares links or content without interacting, the probability of being fake is very high.

In addition, users can check other information such as groups they join, photos and videos tagged by friends... Fake Facebook accounts will be tagged less, not join many groups, and not interact much on Facebook...
