Chicken price is still 15,000 VND per kg in Dong Nai
This is the lowest price in the past 4 years in Dong Nai, causing heavy losses for farmers.
Since the beginning of February, the price of white-feathered chicken in the Mekong Delta and Dong Nai provinces has continuously dropped sharply due to supply exceeding demand. Accordingly, if at the beginning of the month the price of chicken was at nearly 30,000 VND per kg, by mid-month it had decreased by 4,000-5,000 VND compared to before and currently in Dong Nai the price has continued to drop sharply to 15,000-16,000 VND per kg.

According to chicken farmers in Dong Nai, for every 1kg of white-feathered chicken meat sold, farmers have to suffer a loss of 6,000-8,000 VND. The more farms raise, the bigger the loss, some farms lose nearly a billion VND... The reason for the sharp drop in chicken prices is due to supply exceeding demand, plus imported chicken meat sold wholesale for only 17,000-20,000 VND per kg, causing domestic chicken prices to continuously plummet.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Le Van Quyet, Vice President of the Southeast Livestock Association, said that the price of white-feathered chicken in Dong Nai is the lowest in the past 4 years, with farmers losing several thousand dong per kilogram.
“Currently, the amount of chickens raised for the domestic market is quite abundant, especially many farms are saving goods for the post-Tet period, so the supply has increased sharply while the demand has decreased. It is forecasted that in the coming time, chicken prices will not increase much because cheap imported chickens are still flooding into Vietnam,” Mr. Quyet said, adding that a sad reality that has not been resolved for many years is the distribution stage.
Specifically, the price of products produced by farmers is very low while the price of products reaching consumers is still high. To solve this situation, the association recommends that State management agencies need to take measures to intervene and support, helping consumers enjoy a reasonable price and domestic products can compete with foreign products.
Dong Nai is the second largest chicken farming province in the country with a total herd of nearly 20 million chickens. Of which, over 20 large farms are raised according to a concentrated, closed farming process, ensuring disease safety.
