July 1, 2013 15:23

After a slight increase in June, gas prices continued to rise in July, reaching 13,000 VND per 12kg cylinder. According to gas companies, this month's high increase was also influenced by the recently announced rise in the exchange rate by banks.

Mr. Do Trung Thanh, Deputy Head of Gas Business Department of Saigon Petro, said: “From 7:30 AM on July 1st, the retail price of SP gas increased by 1,083 VND/kg (including VAT), equivalent to an increase of 13,000 VND/12kg cylinder compared to the price at the beginning of June 2013. The retail price for consumers in Ho Chi Minh City is 378,000 VND/12kg cylinder.”

Explaining the reason for this price increase, Mr. Do Trung Thanh said: "The reason for the increase is due to the CP price (world gas price - PV) announced in July 2013 averaging 792.5 USD/ton, an increase of 35 USD/ton compared to June, increased purchase prices, and an increase in the exchange rate announced by banks."

This is the second time gas prices have increased after six consecutive months of decreases. However, this month's increase is significantly higher than the June increase (1,000 VND per 12kg cylinder).

Previously, the price of gas in May decreased by 17,000 VND/12kg cylinder compared to the price at the beginning of April 2013; the price in April decreased by 24,000 VND/12kg cylinder; the price in March 2013 decreased by 4,000 VND/12kg cylinder compared to the price at the beginning of February 2013; the price in February 2013 decreased by 13,000 VND/12kg cylinder compared to January 2013; the price in January 2013 also decreased by 7,000 VND/12kg cylinder compared to the price at the beginning of December 2012; the price in December 2012 decreased by 12,000 VND/12kg cylinder compared to the price at the beginning of November 2012.
