Rice price today May 12: Remain stable
Rice price today, May 12: Rice price in the Mekong Delta remains stable. Transactions are taking place at a moderate level because supply has not shown signs of a sharp increase.
Prices of raw rice and finished products in An Giang remained stable. Specifically, raw rice OM 380 fluctuated between 8,000 and 8,100 VND/kg; IR 504 rice fluctuated between 8,200 and 8,250 VND/kg; CL 555 rice was purchased at 8,600 and 8,800 VND/kg. OM 18 - often considered to be of higher quality - was priced between 10,200 and 10,400 VND/kg. OM 5451 rice also remained at 9,600 and 9,750 VND/kg.
In the finished rice group, OM 380 has a selling price of 8,800 - 9,000 VND/kg, while IR 504 finished product is higher, ranging from 9,500 - 9,700 VND/kg.
At retail markets, consumer rice prices have not fluctuated. Nang Nhen rice continues to hold the highest price in the domestic market at VND28,000/kg. Regular rice is commonly priced from VND13,000 - 15,000/kg. Fragrant rice such as Jasmine, Huong Lai, Soc Thai rice or Japanese rice are priced from VND16,000 - 22,000/kg. Particularly, Taiwanese fragrant rice and Nang Hoa rice fluctuate around VND20,000 - 21,000/kg.
The price of fresh rice purchased at the field is generally stable, but some types have decreased slightly. OM 380 rice (fresh) decreased by 100 VND/kg compared to a few days ago, to 5,600 - 5,800 VND/kg. IR 50404 rice remains at 5,400 - 5,700 VND/kg, OM 5451 fluctuates from 6,200 - 6,400 VND/kg.
High-quality rice varieties such as OM 18, Dai Thom 8 and Nang Hoa 9 have higher prices, from 6,650 - 7,000 VND/kg.
In the export market, according to an update from the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the price of 5% broken rice increased slightly to 398 USD/ton (up 1 USD), while 25% broken rice remained at 368 USD/ton and 100% broken rice remained unchanged at 323 USD/ton.
Regarding the export situation, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in coordination with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, from the beginning of the year to April 15, 2025, the whole country exported about 2.85 million tons of rice, earning 1.47 billion USD. The amount of exported rice increased by 6.4% over the same period last year, but the total turnover decreased by 14.9%.
