Rice price today November 21, 2024: Export rice price drops sharply

Domestic rice price

Rice prices in the Mekong Delta today were stable compared to yesterday, after slight fluctuations last week.

Specifically, the current rice price in An Giang fluctuates as follows: IR 50404 rice is at 7,400 - 7,500 VND/kg, OM 5451 rice is from 7,500 - 7,700 VND/kg, OM 380 rice is from 6,800 - 7,000 VND/kg, OM 18 rice is from 8,400 - 8,600 VND/kg, Nang Hoa 9 is from 8,400 - 8,600 VND/kg, and Nhat rice is at 7,800 - 8,000 VND/kg. The demand for fragrant and sticky rice is currently increasing, especially in the harvest areas, although traders still keep the purchase price stable compared to the previous day.

Rice prices are stable today, with less fragrant rice in stock, but better quality thanks to favorable weather. IR 504 Summer-Autumn raw rice is priced at VND10,400 - 10,500/kg, while IR 504 finished rice ranges from VND12,400 - 12,550/kg. Localities such as Sa Dec (Dong Thap) and Lap Vo - Vam Cong (Dong Thap) have recorded stable rice prices, improved rice quality and all warehouses and markets are buying fragrant rice.

The price of rice at retail markets ranges from 15,000 to 16,000 VND/kg. Some types of rice have higher prices such as: Nang Nhen rice costs 28,000 VND/kg, fragrant rice from 20,000 - 22,000 VND/kg, Jasmine rice from 17,000 - 18,000 VND/kg, Nang Hoa rice 21,500 VND/kg, long-grain Thai fragrant rice from 20,000 - 22,000 VND/kg, Huong Lai rice 22,000 VND/kg, Taiwanese fragrant rice 21,000 VND/kg, Soc regular rice 18,500 VND/kg, Soc Thai rice 21,000 VND/kg and Japanese rice costs 22,500 VND/kg.

Regarding by-product prices, the prices of by-products range from 6,000 - 9,400 VND/kg. OM 5451 broken rice costs from 9,300 - 9,400 VND/kg, a slight increase, while dry bran slightly decreased by 50 VND, to 5,950 - 6,100 VND/kg.

The glutinous rice market recorded a slight upward adjustment. IR 4625 glutinous rice (fresh) increased by 300 VND/kg, to 8,200 - 8,400 VND/kg. Long An 3-month dried glutinous rice maintained a high price of 9,800 - 10,000 VND/kg.

World rice prices

In the export market, Vietnamese rice prices decreased slightly compared to yesterday. 100% broken rice is currently priced at $410/ton, down $13/ton; 5% standard rice is priced at $518/ton, down $4/ton; and 25% broken rice is down to $488/ton, also down $4/ton.

On November 20, at Phu Hoa Youth Agricultural Service Cooperative, Tan Hoi Commune, Tan Hiep District, the Kien Giang Provincial Agricultural Extension Center organized a workshop to deploy a high-quality, low-emission rice production model for the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop, under the 1 million hectare project. The workshop was attended by experts and scientists from the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and Winrock International.

According to Dr. Nguyen Van Hung from IRRI, to date, seven high-quality, low-emission rice farming models have been implemented in five provinces in the Mekong Delta, with an area of ​​50 hectares each. In Kien Giang, two participating cooperatives are the Phu Hoa Youth Agricultural Service Cooperative (Tan Hiep) and the Thanh An Shrimp-Crab-Rice Cooperative (An Minh). Results from the first crop show that this model helps farmers reduce costs, increase productivity and protect the environment.

Seeing positive results from the first crop, Kien Giang will expand this model to districts of Giong Rieng, Chau Thanh, Rach Gia City, Go Quao, An Minh, Hon Dat, Kien Luong and Giang Thanh in the winter-spring crop of 2024-2025. To widely deploy, Kien Giang Agricultural Extension Center will continue to build demonstration sites, organize training courses for agricultural extension staff, farmers and participating cooperatives, and improve field designs to better suit the production reality in each region.
