“I thought that no students would register for Civic Education, so at first I asked the Organizing Committee not to include this subject. But then, more than 40 students joined the Zoom class with me, which really surprised me” - that was the first share of teacher Le Thu Ha - Civic Education teacher - Le Viet Thuat High School (Vinh City) when she first participated in the "Green Shirt Tutor" program launched by the Provincial Youth Union.

Although she is past the age of the Youth Union, since knowing that the Provincial Youth Union and the School Youth Union are implementing the "Green Shirt Tutor" program, teacher Thu Ha is still ready to participate.

The only thing Ms. Thu Ha fears is that not many students will take the Civic Education course because most students only register for the graduation exam. The number of students who register for this course for university admission can be counted on the fingers of one hand.

However, beyond expectations, from the very first lesson, the online classroom taught by Ms. Thu Ha had nearly 40 students attending.

My students come from many different schools throughout the province. Since each class only lasts about 2 hours, there is not much time for teachers and students to get to know each other.

Taking advantage of the limited time, I summarized for the students the key points of the exam and helped them score points on the easiest questions such as finding related keywords, finding signs to be able to answer questions about violations of the law, signs of criminal violations, violations of family relationships, and property relationships.

With nearly 25 years of experience on the podium, teacher Thu Ha shared: Civic Education is an easy subject to score. But to get a score of 8 or higher, students need to thoroughly study the knowledge in the textbook and know how to relate it to practical issues. Many students easily lose points even in comprehension and application questions. Because sometimes they have not mastered the lesson, they easily make mistakes and cannot recognize the questions. Personally, because I only teach students for a very short time, in addition to supporting them with experience in the process of doing the test, I also hope that they will be calm and confident so that they can achieve the highest results in the upcoming exam.

On the evening of June 24, the last online lesson of teacher Le Thi Hai Yen - English teacher - Huynh Thuc Khang High School (Vinh City) with 12th grade students also ended at 11:15 pm.

Meeting via Zoom, many students did not give their real names, but she could still feel the anxiety of the students as the graduation exam was very close.

Ms. Hai Yen shared: At first, when I joined this class, I thought that my students would mainly take the English exam to get their graduation score and I planned to teach them the basics thoroughly. But in fact, after the first session, I saw that the students interacted very well, some students even contacted the teacher after class to ask for more questions to practice for the university entrance exam. I think that when the exam is near, no matter what the purpose of the exam is, the students will all try hard and study hard to get the best results.

After 4 years of teaching, this is also the first time teacher Le Thi Hai Yen has participated in the "Green Shirt Tutor" program. Teaching students via Zoom is not too new for teachers and students today, but standing in class to review graduation exams for students that the teacher has never met still brings many new emotions.

With the desire to provide maximum support to students, teacher Hai Yen is one of the teachers who registered to teach for free with 4 sessions, lasting from June 15 to June 24. Due to work schedules, some of her teaching hours were quite late, but there were always students participating and waiting for her in the Zoom room.

I have just gone through a short period of student life, so I understand the worries and concerns of students before important exams such as the High School Graduation Exam. Therefore, in the extra-curricular classes for students to practice, I guide them on basic skills to easily score points on questions at the recognition and comprehension levels. In addition, I also practice more thoroughly for them in the reading passage, so that they can get high scores, which is the basis for university admission.

The study time is short, the amount of knowledge is too much so it is difficult to support students in the best way. However, I hope that, from the efforts of teachers, students will have more motivation to try, enter the exam confidently and complete with high results.

Green shirt tutor - meaningful activity

The "Green Shirt Tutor" program has been implemented by Nghe An Provincial Youth Union for many years. In previous years, the program was mainly supported directly by union members, youth and student volunteers.

This year, participating in the program, in addition to students who have achieved high results in their studies or have achieved high scores in the High School Graduation Exam, there are also many teachers working at schools in Vinh city such as Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, Huynh Thuc Khang High School, Le Viet Thuat High School, Ethnic Boarding High School No. 2 and Hong Lam Economic College.

This is a completely free program with the purpose of supporting review and supplementing knowledge for students, union members and youth in the whole province to prepare for the 2024 High School Graduation Exam.

Teacher Vo Anh Tu - Math teacher at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted said: Before being contacted by the City Youth Union to participate in the "Green Shirt Tutor" program, I had participated in many volunteer programs such as teaching students at SOS Children's Village, teaching students in mountainous areas. Therefore, I did not hesitate to join this program and although I know that my efforts are very small, I hope that I can support the students in some way, helping them get the highest possible scores.

According to Mr. Tu, the difficulty in these classes is that there are many students with different abilities participating. Therefore, in the teaching process, Mr. Tu always makes adjustments. The first session will start with basic questions for average students. Later, Mr. Tu will gradually improve, trying to solve as many exercises as possible. If a student does not understand any part, he will teach more thoroughly or give them more exercises. In addition, Mr. Tu also teaches students some "tricks" to help them calculate easily.

Although the "Green Shirt Tutor" program only took place 2 weeks before the official exam, according to the synthesis of Nghe An Provincial Youth Union, hundreds of students participated in online classrooms.

The high school graduation exam is an important exam for many candidates. However, due to many different circumstances, not all candidates have the opportunity to study and review systematically. That is why, when implementing the "Green Shirt Tutor" program, we hope to accompany and share with students in the final stages. The program also thanks teachers and students and hopes that with the participation of schools, teachers, organizations and unions, candidates will have a successful exam season, achieving the highest results.
