Basic English knowledge is integrated by Mr. Dang Ba Dao through the familiar song "Duyen Phan" (Destiny), helping students remember and apply it more easily than with conventional learning methods.

On May 28th, Dang Ba Dao, originally from Binh Dinh province and currently living in Ho Chi Minh City, posted a lecture on the 12 English tenses on social media. The lecture has garnered 29,000 views and over 1,000 shares from the online community.

The song, which is over 5 minutes long, begins with the line "The present simple tense describes a fact, a schedule, a preference, or a habit of someone."There are usually, often, sometimes, rarely, always, every." The content wasn't much different from a typical lecture, but it was presented in his own voice, set to the music of the song "Duyen Phan" (Destiny).

"I only spent two hours on Sunday afternoons writing the lyrics, practicing the song, and recording it myself with my phone, so I didn't expect the song to have such a big impact. Many people sent thank-you messages, some students memorized the song and sang it for me. Even some English centers in the Mekong Delta, and middle and high school teachers in Ho Chi Minh City asked permission to use the song to teach their students," Mr. Ba Dao said.

Teacher Dang Ba Dao loves bolero music and decided to create a teaching method based on his interest.

The boyHe is 28 years old, graduated with honors from the University of Foreign Trade, and worked as an English tutor for a while before opening his own center about two years ago.He works at an airline company while also teaching in the evenings, thanks to his passion for foreign languages.

The 12 tenses in English, including the simple present, present continuous, present perfect, present perfect continuous, etc., are fundamental and very important knowledge. However, according to Mr. Dao, many students learned about these tenses 5 to 10 years ago but still cannot distinguish them. He chose to convey this content through a song to provide a standard source of information for them. For tenses with multiple uses, he filtered out the most basic content, avoiding unnecessary details that are difficult to remember.

Previously, Bá Đạo gained popularity on social media thanks to many bolero songs translated from Vietnamese into English: Hàn Mặc Tử, Cô hàng xóm, Vùng lá me bay, Chuyện tình hoa muống biển...

The song "The Neighbor Girl"

The community has praised his innovative teaching methods, noting that English isn't difficult if approached through familiar songs.

According to an 8X generation tutor, grammar is the foundation of learning a foreign language, but it's not the ultimate goal. English learners need to grasp basic grammar first; however, focusing too much on grammar can be a major obstacle. Students should overcome their fear of communication, apply grammar and other knowledge to practice, and engage in more listening and speaking practice to improve their proficiency.

The song "The Region Where Tamarind Leaves Fly"

In the future, Mr. Ba Dao plans to continue compiling lesson plans based on bolero music, his favorite genre. The content could include comparative structures in English or any necessary knowledge that students will frequently use in communication.
