'Awesome family background' of 'Familiar Faces 2022' champion

Nam Phong was born into a family with three generations of art.

12-year-old singer Nam Phong was born and raised in a family with three generations of artists. It is known that his maternal grandfather is a choreographer, musician, and Meritorious Artist Vu Lan. The champion's motherFamiliar Faces 2022is Meritorious Artist Quynh Lan, also a choreographer and currently teaching at the Vietnam Dance Academy. Besides, Nam Phong also has an older brother who is currently studying in Russia, majoring in classical ballet.

According to Meritorious Artist Quynh Lan, her son showed his artistic talent from the very beginning. “Even when he was still stuttering, he always spontaneously moved his body very creatively to music even though he didn’t know anything about dancing or singing. My whole family used to joke that he was the artistic successor of his grandfather and grandmother. Unexpectedly, after 10 years, he has developed in that direction, so the whole family is very happy,” Meritorious Artist Quynh Lan shared.

After discovering that Nam Phong had a talent for dancing and singing, the female artist took her son to study singing with singer Hien Anh, singer Ngoc Khue and later lecturer Dinh Lan Huong of Be Singer Arts Center. As for dancing, although he did not study formally, he showed great interest when he often watched his mother perform. In early 2022, the boy decided to study dance at the Vietnam Dance Academy and vocal music at the Hanoi College of Art.

Although passionate about art, Nam Phong is quite shy and afraid of crowds. It took him a long time to change himself. Thanks to the guidance of his mother and teachers, the championFamiliar Faces 2022boldly participated in many performances. From then on, the boy improved more and more and was no longer afraid to stand in front of the public.

Nam Phong not only sings well but also has a talent for dancing.

Meritorious Artist Quynh Lan said she does not pressure her son to follow in the family's footsteps. The artist only wants her son to develop naturally and creates conditions for him to pursue his passion to the end. She shared: "During the exam period (Familiar faces), I like to sing all day, and when I get bored I stop, instead of following a regular practice schedule. After the first 6 sessions, I changed my perception and understood what I had to do. Perhaps the competitive environment in this playground has helped me mature and become more aware of having to be more professional."
