Record high gas prices, how to fill up to save money?
Gas prices are very high right now. So how can you save money on gas while still getting a profit, and avoid falling prey to the "pickpocketing" tricks of gas stations?
Here are some tips to help you buy gasoline to avoid fraud and make a profit.
Refuel by volume
Many people often buy gasoline in round amounts such as 20,000, 30,000, 50,000 VND... but this way of buying will create favorable conditions for fraudulent behavior by gas station employees, because the stealing programs on gas pumps are often programmed according to the amount of money.
To avoid being "pickpocketed" when filling up gas, users should buy by capacity such as 1 liter, 2 liters... depending on the vehicle's gas tank.
Do not fill the tank
Just fill up with the right amount of gas for the trip, the less gas, the lighter the vehicle, the more fuel efficient it will be.
If the gas tank is full, consumers are very vulnerable to fraud. Because of the reverse suction mechanism of the automatic pump "trigger", when the gas is filled up and reaches the edge of the pump nozzle, which is the safety threshold to prevent gas from overflowing, the pump will automatically control the trigger to stop the pump. This invisibly causes the gas station staff to limit the tank's fullness, the gas indicator will still run but the amount of gas poured in will be less than the displayed indicator.

Refuel when there is 1/2 tank left
When filling up with gas, you should press the button to let the gas flow slowly into the tank. Because when the gas flows into the tank quickly and strongly, the gas expands more.
If you let the gas tank run completely empty, when you refuel, the gas flowing down will encounter greater pressure, causing the gas to expand in volume. When the gas is half full, the distance from the gas nozzle to where the new gas falls will decrease and the pressure in the gas tank will not be as high as when the gas tank is empty.
Choose a time to refuel
Gasoline expands or contracts depending on the temperature. In the morning, when the weather is cooler, gasoline shrinks and loses volume overnight, so it is most beneficial to fill up early in the morning. On the other hand, during the hottest part of the day, when you pay for 10 liters of gasoline, you may only receive 9.1-9.3 liters, the rest is just vapor. Therefore, it is better to buy gasoline in the morning when the temperature is still low.
Also, do not refuel when the tanker truck is pumping gasoline into the gas station's tank. When the tanker truck is pouring gasoline into the tank, it increases the pressure in the gas station's tank, causing the gasoline to expand. At that time, we have to buy a certain amount of gasoline gas and vapor.
Self-measuring fuel
Many people, every time they buy gasoline, take out a can to measure it before pouring it into the motorbike's gas tank. This method may seem inconvenient, but it is probably the most effective way to buy the right amount of gasoline for the money they spent.
Buy according to "taxi wings"
You should buy gas at gas stations where many taxi or truck drivers stop by. Taxi or truck drivers travel frequently, so they have a lot of experience with gas.
Do not buy gas when two people are operating it.
When you see a gas pump with two people operating it: one pumping and one dialing, there is a 95% chance that the gas station is cheating.
Requires the meter to be set to “0″ before pumping.
Because there are many customers or because they are far from the pump, many employees often leave the meter as it was at the previous pump and continue to sell you gas. Whether this is intentional or not, the customer will suffer because there is always an error in the calculation of the price between the two pumps.
Look carefully when buying gasoline
First, you can detect any suspicious behavior from the gas station staff. Second, you can know whether the gas meter is displaying enough or not, whether the numbers are jumping or not. Some gas stations have the “trick” of extending the gas pump line far away so that customers have difficulty observing the meter, you should also pay attention.
Check gasoline quality
When buying gasoline, customers can ask the gas station staff to drop a few drops of gasoline on their fingertips. If they see a greasy, sticky feeling, the gasoline may have been mixed with oil. You can also test gasoline by dropping a few drops of gasoline on a piece of white paper, then let the gasoline evaporate. If you see dirt, it means the gasoline has been mixed with oil. If there are no stains, you can rest assured about the quality of the gasoline.
Compare between purchases
There are always fixed gas stations on the way to work, you can check by buying a certain amount of gas and then checking the gas line on the car to compare with the next time and different gas stations. Based on the number of liters and kilometers traveled in each purchase, choose the gas station that you feel most confident about.
Avoid evaporation
Avoid evaporation by keeping the gas cap tightly closed and parking in the shade. This will also save you a significant amount of gas.
Don't fill up with too much gas at "strange" gas stations.
Estimate how much gas you need to complete your trip and get to your usual gas station.
Fill with the correct type of gasoline
Each type of vehicle will be suitable for different types of gasoline. Filling the right type of gasoline in the vehicle will help the vehicle save energy significantly. If the wrong type is filled, the gasoline will not burn completely and will create residue in the vehicle, causing the vehicle to consume more gasoline.
Boycott fraudulent gas stations
Consumers have every right to boycott gas stations that show signs of fraudulent and deceptive business practices and warn others against such fraudulent behavior, and report to the police if there is specific and clear evidence.
