Motorbike prices increase in the days leading up to Tet
In the last month of the Lunar New Year 2017, the prices of motorbikes at Honda and Yamaha dealerships have increased significantly. Some hot models such as SH have increased by nearly 15 million VND in the days before Tet.
Motorbikes are a popular means of transportation and are often purchased by Vietnamese people at the end of the year. As Tet approaches, the prices of some popular motorbike models of Honda and Yamaha brands have mostly increased.
According to a survey at a Yamaha dealer in Hanoi, the Exciter manual clutch model is sold at a higher price than the listed price in all versions. In particular, the matte black version that many people asked to buy has a price about 5 million VND higher than the listed price, ranging from 49.5 million to 50.5 million VND. Meanwhile, the remaining versions are about 2 million VND higher than the suggested price.
Honda SH is still hot in price in the days before Tet. |
The owner of this car dealership said that near Tet, the demand for buying cars has increased but not much. The Exciter is a good selling car model and has a higher price due to increased demand.
Meanwhile, other Yamaha products are selling at stable prices, similar to previous months. The NVX 125 and NVX 155 scooters are all priced lower than the announced price from Yamaha Vietnam, with a reduction of 1 million to 2 million depending on the version.
The situation of selling Yamaha scooters below the suggested price has been going on since long before Tet. In the scooter portfolio of the Japanese motorcycle joint venture, there is currently no flagship model, like the position of the manual clutch Exciter model.
Exciter is the only model sold at a higher price than Yamaha's suggested price. |
In contrast, rival Honda is selling its scooters very well. The phenomenon of selling at higher prices than suggested for some popular models has been going on since the end of the calendar year and shows no signs of stopping.
The high-end Honda SH scooter maintains its dealer price of around 81 million to 105 million VND depending on the version. The difference from the suggested price is around 13-15 million VND.
Honda Air Blade is currently on sale for between 40.5 million and 47 million VND. This price is about 2-3 million VND higher than the suggested price, especially the matte black version celebrating the 10th anniversary, which is 7 million VND higher.
Two scooter models for women, Vision and Lead, are also selling at higher prices than suggested. Of these, Vision is still the best-selling model on the market, despite the price difference of about 3 million VND.
Honda PCX sells steadily, even lower than listed price at some dealers. |
The 2018 PCX line is a rare Honda model that maintains a stable selling price as suggested, and some dealers even sell it at a price about 2 million VND lower than the listed price.
For the Winner 150 manual transmission model, Honda dealers have maintained the selling price lower than the suggested price by about 6-7 million for many months now. While the matte black Exciter has a rather high price, the Winner in similar colors is being sold at a much lower price than the suggested price.
During the days leading up to Tet, motorbike dealerships are crowded with people, but in addition to customers buying new motorbikes, many of them come to have their motorbikes serviced and maintained for the Tet holiday.
The owner of a Yamaha dealership said that the number of customers coming to get services was so great that the technicians were working continuously but still could not meet the demand. He shared that he would give his employees a Tet holiday from the afternoon of December 28th of the lunar calendar and not try to work overtime, like most other dealerships.
