Mai Vang Awards 2015 removed awards for Songs and Singing Groups

Due to the lack of outstanding songs and bands in 2015, the Mai Vang Awards Organizing Committee has decided to remove these two awards.

After 2 months of taking place in the Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, the nomination round of the Mai Vang Award has officially closed. Based on the results of the vote counting, the Mai Vang Award rules and the consultation of the Art Advisory Council, the Organizing Committee of the 21st Mai Vang Award - 2015 has decided on the number of categories and the list of artists, works and television programs to be included in the voting round, including: 13 categories, 49 artists, 7 works and 4 television programs.

However, this year, the Mai Vang Award Organizing Committee has decided to remove two annual categories: Song and Singing Group. The Organizing Committee said: “In fact, according to experts, in 2015 there were no truly outstanding newly composed songs. If Mai Vang 2014 had an outstanding song: “Bon Chu Lam”, this year there is no song of similar quality and public support. The songs that the public nominated for this year’s season are all old songs, not suitable for the rules of the award. The Singing Group is also considered by experts to have no new or outstanding activities. Based on the rules, the number of nominations is too low (below average) compared to other categories, considering the proposal of the art advisory council, the Organizing Committee has decided to cancel these two categories, not to include them in the voting round.”

In addition to removing the above 2 categories, in some categories for the voting round, the organizing committee only selected 3 or 4 candidates because the difference in votes between the remaining candidates and the selected candidates was too large. Accordingly, the category of Female Pop Singer only had 4 candidates; the category of Singer of Traditional Revolutionary Music also only had 4 candidates; the category of Television Program still had the top 4, especially the category of Film - Television only selected the top 3.

In addition, Mai Vang also split the category of Singers singing traditional revolutionary folk music in the nomination round into two separate categories: Singers singing folk music and Singers singing traditional revolutionary music to include in the voting round.

The reason for separating these two categories depends on the number of nominations for the singers not being too different. Besides, it also shows the spirit of encouragement of the Golden Apricot Award for singers pursuing folk music, revolutionary traditions in the year and the coming time.

In the nominations, the most prominent this year are Hoai Linh and Truong Giang. In addition to the two general categories: Movie-TV Actor, Comedian, Truong Giang is also nominated in the MC category and Hoai Linh is nominated in the Stage Actor category. Thus, there are 2 categories where Truong Giang and Hoai Linh become rivals. Viet Huong and Tran Thanh are both nominated in 2 categories.
