The 2014 Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to a French writer.
Reuters reported that the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (RSAS) announced on October 9th that French writer Patrick Modiano has been awarded the 2014 Nobel Prize in Literature.

The prize is worth 8 million Swedish crowns (US$1.1 million).
RSAS stated that historical novelist Modiano won the award "for his art of memoir, in which he evokes the most unconscious human destinies and portrays the lives of the French people under Nazi occupation during World War II from 1940-1944."
The Nobel Prize in Literature is the fourth award to be given in this year's Nobel season.
