CIA Director Mike Pompeo officially becomes new US Secretary of State

The US Senate on Thursday approved the appointment of former CIA chief Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State. 57 state representatives out of 100 supported Pompeo's candidacy. Pompeo becomes the 70th head of the State Department.
He is expected to travel to Brussels today, where he will meet NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and attend a meeting of foreign ministers of alliance member countries, where they will discuss preparations for the July summit.
Earlier, a source in the Russian Foreign Ministry told Sputnik that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov could meet with his US counterpart on May 21 within the framework of the G-20 summit in Buenos Aires. The sides have not yet reached a specific agreement on this, the agency's interlocutor said.
