CIA Director: US ends “soft policy” with Russia

“Russia continues to act aggressively, challenging the soft policy that we have pursued for many years. That has now come to an end,” Pompeo told a congressional hearing. “The list of actions the administration has taken to raise the costs for President Vladimir Putin is long.
The actions of the US administration demonstrate that President Donald Trump’s national security strategy identifies Russia as a threat to our country. While diplomatic efforts between our two countries will be challenging, given our past confrontation with Moscow, we must continue these efforts.”
Earlier, the US announced additional sanctions against 24 Russian citizens and 14 Russian entities, citing actions that Washington said undermined Western democracy.
