CIA director hints at possibility of Kim Jong-un 'sudden death'

The CIA director said that if North Korean leader Kim Jong-un suddenly died, it would be "just an accident".

"If Kim Jong-un disappears, given the history of the CIA, I'm not going to talk about it," AFP quoted Mike Pompeo, director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), as saying on October 19 when asked what would happen if the North Korean leader suddenly died. "It could have been an accident. It's just a bad outcome."

Pompeo also emphasized that the US policy is to "challenge North Korea politically and economically" to prevent Kim Jong-un's ambitions, turning North Korea into a nuclear threat to the US. He believes that Kim Jong-un's main goal is to maintain power.

“(The CIA) will become an increasingly dangerous agency,” according to Pompeo.

The CIA is believed to be involved in plots to overthrow or assassinate leaders of countries such as Iran, Cuba, Congo and Chile.

In May, Pyongyang accused the CIA and South Korea's intelligence agency of sending a terrorist group to infiltrate North Korea to carry out a biochemical attack on Kim Jong-un. The North Korean Ministry of State Security said the CIA bribed a North Korean worker in Russia in June 2014, turning him into a terrorist.
