Hoai Thanh March 24, 2025 15:59

Mr. Nguyen Huy Tuan provided false information that he could import Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII cars to sell to wealthy individuals, with the aim of defrauding them of nearly 6.5 billion VND.

On March 24, the Criminal Police Department of Can Tho City Police arrested and detained Nguyen Huy Tuan (41 years old, residing in Ha Dong district, Hanoi) for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property"

The police also searched Mr. Tuan's residence at an apartment on Nguyen Huu Tho Street, Tan Hung Ward, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City.

According to initial investigations, Mr. Tuan is the Director of VOV CAR Vietnam Co., Ltd. (located in Long Bien District, Hanoi), which deals in the buying and selling of various types of automobiles.

VOV CAR Vietnam Co., Ltd. ceased business operations on February 23, 2024, but has not yet completed the business dissolution procedures as required by law.

In February 2023, despite the company not having a license to import automobiles, Mr. Tuan went to Can Tho City to discuss and provide information to Mr. LTT (residing in My Khanh commune, Phong Dien district) about the possibility of importing a Rolls Royce Phantom VIII into Vietnam and registering it with diplomatic license plates for $980,000. Mr. T., trusting Tuan, transferred nearly 6.5 billion VND as a deposit for the purchase.

Mr. Tuan committed that by April 2024, the car would be imported to Hai Phong port and handed over to Mr. T.

After receiving the money from Mr. T., Tuan did not contact any organization or individual to order a Rolls Royce Phantom VIII.

Tuan immediately transferred the money he received from Mr. T to various bank accounts to pay off debts and for personal expenses.

After transferring the deposit for the car, Mr. T repeatedly requested Tuan to provide images and videos of the car, as well as the money transfer receipt, to prove that he had proceeded with the order for the supercar… However, Mr. Tuan was unable to provide them.

Suspecting he had been scammed, Mr. T. went to the Can Tho City Police to file a complaint.

The Can Tho Police Department requests that anyone who has been a victim of Nguyen Huy Tuan's methods and tactics as described above contact the Criminal Police Department at 188/1 Nguyen Van Cu Street, An Hoa Ward, Ninh Kieu District, or call 0939.550102 and speak with investigator Phan Quoc Kiet for guidance on how to resolve the matter.
