Male student lost more than 1 billion VND because he fell into the trap of a person impersonating a police officer
Because he did not understand the trick of impersonating a police officer to commit fraud, a male student in Hanoi transferred more than 1 billion VND to the subject.
On March 22, Hanoi City Police said they had just received a report from a male student about being scammed of more than 1 billion VND.
Specifically, on the morning of March 17, Mr. A. (a student at a university in Hanoi) received a call from someone claiming to be a police officer.
This subject informed that Mr. A's personal information was related to a money laundering account and asked him to go to Hai Phong City Police to work. At the same time, the subject asked Mr. A to prove his assets in the bank.
Because he did not know about this scam, Mr. A transferred more than 1 billion VND into the subject's account. Later, when he realized he had been scammed, he went to the Mai Dich Ward Police Station (Cau Giay District) to report the incident.
From the above incident, Hanoi City Police recommends that people be vigilant and inform their relatives and friends about the tricks of impersonating police officers to defraud, to avoid becoming victims of bad guys.
The police agency affirmed that when working with people, the police will directly send invitations, summonses or send them through the local police. There is absolutely no phone call asking people to transfer money to bank accounts or install software to serve the investigation.
When detecting cases with signs of fraud as above, people need to immediately report to the nearest police agency.
