Director of the Department of Transport: "When on the street, ask people to slow down"

Speaking at the discussion session in the hall on the morning of July 19, Ms. Dinh Thi An Phong, a delegate of Nghi Loc district, expressed her opinion that in the first 6 months of 2018, traffic accidents in the province decreased in all 3 aspects; however, there were 8 localities where the number of deaths due to traffic accidents increased, including Nghi Loc district.

According to delegate An Phong, since the N5 road was put into use, mainly passing through Nghi Loc district, it has become a black spot, with serious accidents continuously occurring.

"The Provincial People's Committee and the Traffic Safety Steering Committee should continue to pay attention to installing necessary support signs on N5 Road, patrol teams should regularly perform duties on this route and strengthen traffic safety propaganda in localities" - the female delegate of Nghi Loc district proposed.

Responding to this petition, Mr. Nguyen Hong Ky - Director of the Department of Transport added more information about investment work to ensure traffic safety such as installing a system of markers, warning lights, restoring slopes for residential roads, forced speed bumps and installing traffic lights at the intersection of National Highway 1A and Road N5.

However, the head of the provincial transport sector also admitted that traffic accidents still occur on this route and the Vinh bypass. Faced with this situation, Mr. Nguyen Hong Ky said that he is submitting to the provincial People's Committee a number of plans for building rural traffic service roads.

“The Traffic Inspectorate and Traffic Police regularly have patrol teams to handle the situation. In the near future, the Department of Transport will propose that the Provincial People's Committee install an automatic warning system for overloaded vehicles on the N5 route,” Mr. Ky added.

However, according to the head of the transport sector, besides the efforts of state management agencies, people's awareness is very important in ensuring traffic safety.
