In a statement confirming with Politico, Mr. Dubke said he submitted his resignation on May 18 and was immediately accepted by Mr. Trump.

Dubke added that he had offered to stay on during Mr Trump's first foreign trip to ensure a smooth transition when he left office.

Kellyanne Conway, Trump's senior adviser, also confirmed the news to Fox News. She said Dubke had "expressed his desire to leave the White House and made it clear that he would follow the president's international trip, come to work every day and work hard for this trip."

Regarding the reason for his resignation, Mr. Dubke wrote in an email to friends on the morning of May 30 that he was leaving "for personal reasons, but I am honored to serve President Trump and his administration," according to Politico.

He also expressed his pleasure working with the communications and press staff, and commented that the White House is home to "the best and hardest working people in the US Government".

He also shared that he hopes to return to work for Black Rock Group - his media and events company.

Previously, analysts predicted that there would soon be a reshuffle in Mr. Trump's communications team after they failed to help him resolve public opinion about the firing of FBI director James Comey.
