(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of November 8, the Department of Science and Technology coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghe An to organize a scientific workshop to determine the amount of nitrogen fertilizer and unify the appropriate nitrogen fertilizer process for rice plants in some key rice production areas in the province.

Attending the workshop was Mr. Nguyen Van Linh - Director of the North Central Agricultural Science and Technology Institute.

The objective of the workshop is to determine the appropriate amount of nitrogen fertilizer for rice in some key rice growing areas of the province, to increase income by 7-10% for rice growers, improve rice quality, and protect the ecological environment of rice fields.

The workshop focused on the following topics: Determining the appropriate amount of nitrogen fertilizer for rice in the province; analyzing nitrogen fertilizer application and pest and disease prevention, and rice plant resistance. From there, solutions were proposed for fertilizer application in general and nitrogen fertilizer application in particular to save costs and increase rice productivity.

From some experimental models in Yen Thanh, Hung Nguyen and Thanh Chuong over the past 3 production seasons, it has been shown that: Different doses of nitrogen fertilizer have an effect on the height of rice plants. The more nitrogen fertilizer, the higher the final height of the rice plant; the more nitrogen fertilizer, the higher the tillering ability, but the lower the effective tillering ratio. The more nitrogen fertilizer, the more pests and diseases arise, especially small leaf rollers, stem borers, rats, brown leaf blight, rice blast, etc.

Through the topic, the workshop agreed on the appropriate nitrogen fertilizer process for rice in the province: Summer-autumn hybrid rice 145 kg/ha; spring hybrid rice 175 kg/ha; summer-autumn pure rice 125 kg/ha, spring pure rice 155 kg/ha. According to the results of the topic, if the nitrogen amount is reduced from 2 - 2.25 kg/sao, rice yield is still guaranteed and pests and diseases are reduced.
