(Baonghean.vn) - The Team Leader is considered to play many roles in schools. Due to its own characteristics, the selection of teachers to be Team Leaders is currently facing many difficulties.

"Aging" team of Team Leaders

Born in 1974 and about to become a grandmother, teacher Nguyen Thi Minh Hanh still takes on the job.Team LeaderThanh Lam Primary School (Thanh Chuong). She is one of the oldest Team Leaders participating in the Provincial Team Leader Competition. Ms. Hanh said that she wants to bring achievements to the school and motivate young teachers to work hard.

After 25 years of being the Team Leader, she said that this is an interesting job with many useful activities and thanks to the Team work, she feels much younger than her age. However, with the desire for the school's Team work to be more innovative and dynamic, she hopes to soon have someone to replace her. Or at least, there will be people with the same passion and enthusiasm for her to gradually train and develop.

“I work far from home and have devoted myself for many years, so I want to spend time with my family and focus on my profession. But in fact, finding young people is difficult, finding people who understand and love the job is even more difficult, so even though the school has proposed for 2 years, it still has not found anyone who meets the requirements,” Ms. Hanh shared.

Nearly 50 years old, teacher Nguyen Doan Cong - Nghia Hoan Secondary School is also one of the oldest Team Leaders in Tan Ky district. He himself is a physical education teacher, but because he likes extracurricular activities and has many talents, since 2002, he has been trusted by the school to take on the additional role of Team Leader.

According to regulations, the term of a Team Leader is usually only 5 years, but the difficulty in finding a replacement has caused him to extend this job from one term to another. Even up to this point, he still does not know when he will be able to retire because the school does not know when it will find a suitable replacement.

Speaking more about his special job, teacher Nguyen Doan Cong said: Although I really like the work of the Team Leader, compared to before, now, as a middle-aged person like me, it is difficult to work effectively, because my enthusiasm is not as high as when I was young.

At the recently held Provincial Competition for Excellent Team Leaders, Tan Ky district had a quota of 4 teachers to participate. However, after reviewing primary and secondary schools in the district, the number of qualified teachers was only 2 and both were over 40 years old.

Speaking more about this, Ms. Vo Thi Huyen Nhung - an expert from the Department of Education and Training of Tan Ky district said: Currently, the people working as Team Leaders in the area are all part-time teachers and are quite old, from 40-45 years old. In the coming time, it will be very difficult to "rejuvenate" the team because this is a special job.

In addition to enthusiasm and passion, the leader of the Youth Union must also have cultural, artistic, physical education and sports talents and especially must have experience, especially when the 2018 General Education Program requires organizing many experiential activities outside of class. The current difficulty, especially at the secondary level, is that most schools have not recruited additional staff for a long time. Therefore, building a successor team is facing many difficulties.

Strengthening the training of "new factors"

A working day of teacher Nguyen Cao Bang - Music teacher and Team Leader of Thai Son Primary School (Do Luong) usually lasts until nearly 6 pm. His extra time is mainly for extracurricular classes which are usually held at the end of each school day and are completely free with a variety of content such as folk dancing, Team etiquette practice, singing and dancing in the school yard.

Four years ago, Mr. Bang was the valedictorian of the Provincial Team Leader Teacher Competition. With many years of experience in Team work, Mr. Bang is currently a member of the District Team Council, a core teacher who often participates in training, professional skills and Team work organized by the Do Luong District Team Council. Through the process of doing Team work at the school, Mr. Bang shared: When first becoming the Team Leader, everyone has their own confusion.

However, to be successful, in addition to talent, you must have passion, a desire to learn and a specific, focused plan for the year to arrange your time appropriately. I often share these experiences with my colleagues.

The entire Do Luong district has 53 teams in schools, along with 53 teachers working as Team Leaders. In addition to working part-time, the age of the Team Leaders is quite high, with 36 people aged 40 and over.

Based on the above reality, in recent years, the District Youth Union and the Do Luong District Youth Union Council have determined that it is necessary to quickly train and develop the next generation to rejuvenate the team of Youth Union Leaders at schools. Most recently, at the Provincial and District Youth Union Leader Teacher Competition, the district had 3 teachers who won First, Second and Third prizes, all of whom were young teachers under 35 years old. In this common success, there is a great contribution from Mr. Bang and a number of other Youth Union Leaders in the area.

Speaking more about this, Mr. Nguyen Tat Hung - Deputy Secretary of the District Youth Union, Chairman of the District Youth Union Council said: The senior Youth Union leaders will face many difficulties in their activities. Meanwhile, they are enthusiastic, experienced, and have many outstanding skills. Therefore, in the process of training and fostering, we consider them as the main force to support the young people.

Regarding the aging of the team of Team Leaders, the recent provincial competition for excellent Team Leaders revealed alarming figures when the number of teachers registering for the competition in some districts was still low, some districts had only 1 participant because it was difficult to find qualified people. The participation rate was less than 10% (76/889 Team Leaders in the whole province), which is too low compared to actual requirements.

In addition, in the list of 76 teachers who initially registered, there were only 9 teachers aged 29 - 33, the remaining 53 teachers aged 34 - 43 and 14 teachers aged 44 - 49, the oldest was born in 1974. Through the organization process, the organizing committee also determined that "most of the teachers in charge of the Youth Union are old so they are still hesitant to participate".

With the current difficulties, Mr. Nguyen Ho Phuoc - Head of the School Department, Nghe An Provincial Youth Union said: To rejuvenate the team of Team Leaders, schools need to look for successors and have a plan for training and coaching. Nghe An Provincial Youth Union will coordinate with the Central Youth Union and related units to create conditions for them to participate in training, carry out many activities and organize training camps so that Team Leaders have the opportunity to gain experience and improve their professional capacity.

Regarding the team of Team Leaders in schools, the Ministry of Education and Training has also issued Circular 27/2017/TT-BGDDT regulating the standards for teachers to be Team Leaders of Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers. However, in reality, in schools, many teachers are not interested in this job because, in addition to the prescribed standards, this is a job that requires a lot of time, effort and dedication. Meanwhile, the mechanism and treatment policies are not guaranteed and the work pressure is high. The "rejuvenation" will therefore still be difficult.
