Winning a thrilling victory, the Vietnamese team lit up the chance to continue
The Vietnamese team won an important victory against the Philippines team in the 5th match of Group F in the 2nd qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia.

Immediately after the opening whistle of the Syrian referee, Mr. Hanna Hattab, our players rushed to the opponent's field in search of the opening goal.

Despite dominating the game, coach Kim Sang-sik's players were unable to penetrate the opponent's tight defense. On the other side of the battle line, the Philippines team not only excelled in defense but also created extremely dangerous counterattacks.

In the 20th minute, after a careless cross pass from Hung Dung, striker Zico Bailey had a "1 on 1" situation with goalkeeper Van Lam. Fortunately for the Vietnamese team, the player wearing the number 20 shirt shot the ball just wide of the post.
Even in the 41st minute, the Philippines team had a better chance. From Santiago Rubio's cross, striker Patrick Reichelt missed the ball, causing the away team to lose a "sure" goal. Overall, the Philippines team had an excellent first half, especially in defense.

Entering the second half, coach Kim Sang-sik made a substitution when Khuat Van Khang had to give way to Phan Tuan Tai. And in the first attack, the Vietnamese team almost scored the opening goal.

In the 47th minute, Nguyen Van Toan, instead of crossing to Nguyen Tien Linh in an open position, took a shot from a narrow angle, the ball landing neatly in the hands of goalkeeper Neil Etheridge. In the following minutes, the Vietnamese team continued to dominate the game.
While engrossed in attacking, goalkeeper Dang Van Lam's net suddenly shook in the 62nd minute. Do Duy Manh was the one who made the mistake when Patrick Reichelt easily passed and defeated Dang Van Lam with a delicate shot. This loss did not affect the fighting spirit of Do Hung Dung and his teammates.
With the strong support of the home crowd, the Vietnamese team rose up and attacked relentlessly. The result came after only 3 minutes with a close-range shot by Nguyen Tien Linh from an accurate pass by Nguyen Van Toan. In the following time, goalkeeper Neil Etheridge's goal was continuously attacked by the Vietnamese team's strikers. The home team's efforts were also rewarded in the 76th minute, with a tricky header by Nguyen Tien Linh after a cross from substitute Phan Tuan Tai. In the remaining time, the Vietnamese team's players had a series of chances, but could not convert them into goals.
The defense's complacency forced goalkeeper Dang Van Lam to pick the ball out of the net for the second time in the 89th minute. The player who scored the equalizer for the Philippines team was Kevin Ingreso.
It was thought that the match would end with a score of 2-2, but Pham Tuan Hai made a statement with a shot that broke the roof of the opponent's net when the match entered the 5th minute of extra time. This was a very meaningful victory for the Vietnam team and for coach Kim Sang-sik personally.
This victory, along with the 0-2 defeat of the Indonesian team against the Iraqi team, opened up the opportunity to win the second place in Group F for coach Kim Sang-sik and his team. Currently, after 5 matches, the Vietnamese team is only 1 point behind the Indonesian team.
