(Baonghean.vn) - Nghe An General Hospital has just saved the life of a 31-year-old pregnant woman, Nguyen Thi Huong, who suffered from hemorrhage, circulatory shock, and a very high risk of death.

In the early morning of November 16, the mother Nguyen Thi H. (37 years old, Dien Chau) gave birth to a 3.1 kg baby at a lower level hospital. After giving birth, the mother suffered from uterine atony and hemorrhage. Although the doctors at the lower level hospital performed an emergency partial hysterectomy to stop the bleeding, the mother still suffered from massive hemorrhage and gradually fell into a state of shock.

Thạc sỹ
Master Tran Minh Long, Head of the Department of Surgical Resuscitation, examined the post-operative patient Huong.

Immediately, the mother was transferred to the emergency room at Nghe An General Hospital in a state of dilated pupils, unmeasurable blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, and hemorrhagic shock after a partial hysterectomy due to postpartum hemorrhage.

Realizing the critical situation, the pregnant woman was immediately transferred to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. Doctors performed emergency treatment, intubated her, placed her on a ventilator, placed a central venous catheter, and administered cardiac support medication. After cutting the remaining cervical segment, suturing the base of the uterine artery, and stopping the bleeding at the cut tip, the doctors removed about 1 liter of fresh blood and blood clots from the patient's abdomen and mobilized 20 units of red blood cells and plasma (nearly 5 liters) of type O from the hospital's blood bank to transfuse the patient.

After 12 hours of emergency care, the patient was out of danger.

This is the second patient who has had emergency surgery to stop bleeding due to postpartum hemorrhage in the past month. Previously, on October 6, Nghe An General Hospital treated patient Tran Thi N. (39 years old, Quynh Luu) who suffered from circulatory shock due to postpartum hemorrhage.

In this emergency, doctors from Quynh Luu District General Hospital and Nghe An General Hospital worked closely together on the way to transport the patient to the emergency room. 23 units of blood were also mobilized in time to save the patient's life.
