Woman receives heavy sentence for drug dealing after visiting husband serving sentence
Even though her husband is serving a sentence, Nguyen Thi Giang still does not take that as a lesson for herself. This woman has repeatedly traded drugs even though she knows it is against the law.
On July 31, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a trial of three defendants: Nguyen Thi Giang (born in 1981, residing in Cua Lo ward), Vo Van Hanh (born in 1983, residing in Nghi Xa commune (old), now Trung Loc commune), Doan Van Loi (born in 1976, residing in Nghi Duc commune (old), now Vinh Phu ward), Nghe An for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking".
Defendant Cao Xuan Khanh (born 1987), residing in Cua Lo ward, was tried for the crime of "Illegal possession of narcotics".

According to the indictment, around March 2024, Nguyen Thi Giang was given some crystal meth by a man. About a month later, Giang sold more than 4 grams of the drug to Cao Xuan Khanh for 3 million VND. After taking it home to use, Khanh found that the quality of the drug was poor, so he threw it away and texted Giang to inform her.
On May 19, 2024, Khanh and Giang went to Xuan Ha Prison - Ministry of Public Security to visit Giang's husband who was serving his sentence. On the way back, Khanh ordered 1 drug order (about 100 grams) from Giang for use. Hearing that, Giang agreed to sell.
On the afternoon of May 26, 2024, Giang contacted Doan Van Loi to order 100 grams of crystal meth. Knowing that his friend Vo Van Hanh had just bought drugs, Loi contacted his friend. After discussing, Loi informed Giang that the price of 100 grams of drugs was 40 million VND. This woman agreed to buy but asked to pay half in advance.
After receiving the money, Hanh put the drugs in a cardboard box, brought it to an electric pole, and informed Giang. At 4 p.m. that same day, Giang rode her motorbike to the designated location to get the drugs. On the way back, Nguyen Thi Giang was arrested by the police.
Searching Giang’s residence, the police seized more than 140 grams of drugs that she had hidden to sell for profit. The investigation agency determined that in this case, Nguyen Thi Giang must bear criminal responsibility for buying and selling more than 244 grams of drugs.
Vo Van Hanh and Doan Van Loi must bear criminal responsibility for buying and selling nearly 100 grams of drugs. Cao Xuan Khanh bought 100 grams of drugs from Giang for his own use, so he must bear responsibility for illegal possession of drugs.
At the trial, the defendants admitted to the crimes as charged in the indictment. Defendant Giang presented her difficult circumstances, her husband was in prison, and she was raising a child under 36 months old, asking the court to consider reducing her sentence.
After considering the role of each defendant in the case, the panel sentenced Nguyen Thi Giang to 20 years in prison; Vo Van Hanh to 18 years in prison, Doan Van Loi to 17 years in prison for illegal drug trafficking; and defendant Cao Xuan Khanh received an 11-year prison sentence for illegal drug possession.
