Vocational teachers can teach a maximum of 510 hours per year.
The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs has just issued a Circular stipulating the working regime for vocational education teachers.
According to the Circular, the working time for teachers teaching at the college and vocational levels is 44 weeks/year, based on a 40-hour work week.
Teachers are entitled to 8 weeks of annual leave, while administrative staff involved in teaching are entitled to 6 weeks, including summer vacation, Tet holiday, and other public holidays.

Teaching hour quota
The standard teaching hours for teachers at the college and vocational levels in one academic year are stipulated as follows: From 380 to 450 standard hours for teachers at the college level; from 430 to 510 standard hours for teachers at the vocational level.
The principal or director shall determine the appropriate teaching hour quota for the academic year based on the actual situation of the vocational education institution, the characteristics of each module and subject, and the qualifications of the teachers.
The standard teaching hour quota for teachers of general subjects in one academic year is 450 standard hours for teachers at the college level; and 510 standard hours for teachers at the intermediate level.
The teaching hour quota for teachers of general education subjects in vocational education institutions is implemented according to the regulations in Circular No. 28/2009/TT-BGDĐT dated October 21, 2009, issued by the Minister of Education and Training, promulgating regulations on the working regime for general education teachers.
The circular clearly states that the teaching hour quota for teachers participating in teaching at multiple levels in one academic year will be applied according to the teaching hour quota at the highest level.
The teaching hour quotas for civil servants, managerial staff, and staff of specialized departments and divisions who meet the qualifications to participate in teaching, in order to understand the content, training program, and learning process of trainees and students, and to improve the effectiveness of training management, are stipulated as follows:
Principal: 30 standard hours/year; Vice-Principal: 40 standard hours/year; Head of Department and equivalent: 60 standard hours/year; Deputy Head of Department and equivalent: 70 standard hours/year; Officials in specialized departments and divisions related to training; student management; examination and quality assurance: 80 standard hours/year.
According to the Circular, the teaching hour quota for teachers in the Faculty of Education within vocational education institutions is calculated the same as the teaching hour quota for teachers teaching at the college level. For other qualified staff in specialized departments and professional units, based on the workload and assigned tasks, the Principal or Director of the vocational education institution may sign teaching contracts if needed.
The responsibilities of teachers at the college and vocational levels. According to the Circular, teachers at the college and vocational levels have the following duties: Teaching; supervising exams, tests, and assessments at the end of modules and subjects; grading entrance exams; grading graduation exams; guiding and evaluating specialized topics and graduation theses; evaluating research results of trainees, students, and apprentices; guiding internships and internships combined with productive labor. Simultaneously, they prepare students for exams at all levels; compile textbooks and teaching materials; observe classes and exchange teaching experiences; participate in professional development training for teachers as required by the school, faculty, and department; conduct scientific research; guide students in scientific research; apply scientific and technological advancements or technical innovations and improvements to teaching and practical production… |
