Nghe An teachers excited to receive 'Tet bonus' for the first time
This year's Tet brings joy to more than 40,000 teachers in the entire Nghe An Education sector, marking the first year they officially receive a "Tet bonus". This is the amount of money implemented according to Decree No. 73 on rewards for cadres, civil servants and workers.
First time receiving "Tet bonus"
Nearly a week before Tet holiday, teacher Phan Bui Hiep (Muong Long Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities - Ky Son) happily "showed off" the message from the bank that had just been sent to his personal account with the amount of 8,573,000 VND with the content "transfer reward according toDecree 73"Excellent completion of tasks and extraordinary rewards". This is also the highest reward level of the school this year and Mr. Hiep is the only person to receive a "double" reward with 2 levels of rewards for those who have both excellently completed tasks and received an extraordinary reward.

The bonus from Decree 73, for Mr. Hiep, is also considered a "Tet bonus" because it comes at the end of the year and this is the first time the teachers have had Tet money in the true sense. Sharing more about his achievements, Mr. Hiep said: "Last year, I had a student who won the district-level excellent student award, and I was also the only teacher in the school to be recognized as an excellent teacher at the provincial level. This exam was not part of the school's plan, but I set myself a goal to strive for and was very happy to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Education Trade Union."
According to teacher Lo Kham Phu - Principal of Muong Long Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, up to now, all teachers of the school have received bonuses according to Decree No. 73/2024/ND-CP dated June 30, 2024 of the Government, applicable to cadres, civil servants and employees with a total amount of more than 150 million VND. The budget source was additionally provided by the People's Committee of Ky Son district.
The annual bonus fund is stipulated to be outside the reward fund according to the provisions of the Law on Emulation and Reward, determined by 10% of the total salary fund (excluding allowances) according to the position, title, rank, level and military rank of the subjects in the salary list of the agency or unit.
Due to the nature of schools as non-income public service units, Tet bonuses are not available to schools. Therefore, receiving bonuses according to Decree 73 is an early "Tet bonus" for many teachers. Sharing about this, Mr. Phu said: Our school has 2 levels of rewards: completing tasks and completing tasks excellently with rewards ranging from over 4 million VND to over 5 million VND. In addition, the fund also reserves 20% to reward outstanding achievements. The first time receiving rewards from this fund, teachers are very excited and we consider this a Tet bonus. In addition to this amount, our school has also saved a little budget and provided additional support for each teacher with about 500 thousand VND/person.
After more than 20 years of working in the child-rearing profession, this year, teacher Nguyen Thi Thuy - teacher at Nghi Lam Kindergarten (Nghi Loc), received a bonus for the first time under Decree 73 for her achievements in completing her school year's tasks well. Ms. Thuy was awarded more than 4 million VND.
Sharing her joy, she said: "I feel very lucky because this year I have received both a salary increase and a bonus. This is an unprecedented bonus, because before, every Tet holiday, preschool teachers like us only received support from 500,000 VND to 1 million VND. This amount of money helps my family a lot in preparing for Tet, especially when my husband works as a bricklayer with an unstable income and no Tet bonus."

At Dien Thinh Secondary School (Dien Chau), more than 40 teachers have just received awards according to Decree 73, for teachers who have completed excellently, well and completed their tasks in the 2023-2024 school year. The highest award is more than 7.3 million VND, the lowest is more than 6.5 million VND.
Teacher Phan Huu Tuc - Principal of Dien Thinh Secondary School said that after a year of efforts, all teachers of the school received bonuses according to Decree 73. Before that, to ensure objectivity, the school had a meeting, evaluated and reviewed carefully. Teachers who were classified as excellent were all those who had many contributions, were highly appreciated for their expertise and achievements in teaching and nurturing excellent students.
In the whole Dien Chau district, up to now, more than 25 billion VND has been approved to supplement the 2024 Bonus Fund, implemented according to Decree 73. Schools have completed the review, evaluation, year-end classification and paid bonuses according to regulations. Many schools have transferred bonuses to teachers, helping them have more funds to prepare for Tet.

Previously, schools did not have Tet bonuses, only small support from the union or savings. With Decree 73, the bonus regime is clearly implemented based on achievements and annual evaluation and classification results. Currently, the school has completed the evaluation and is preparing to transfer the bonuses to teachers. In addition, the school also plans to support an additional 2.5 million VND per person, considered a Tet gift."

Across the province, bonuses under Decree 73 have been implemented by localities or have been listed and are awaiting approval to be delivered to teachers before Tet. In addition to rewarding teachers who have completed their tasks excellently and well, teachers who have achieved outstanding results in training excellent students, participating in exams, etc. will also receive extraordinary rewards.

According to Mr. Thai Van Thanh - Director of the Department of Education and Training: Decree 73 has a special meaning for more than 40,000 teachers and staff in the whole province because this is the first time teachers have been rewarded from the state budget. This not only encourages but also requires teachers to try hard, improve their expertise, and complete their tasks well during the school year.
According to the industry leader, in order for the rewards to be in accordance with regulations and for the right subjects, in 2025 and the following years, the industry requires schools to develop clear reward regulations, setting out specific criteria for each different subject. The rewards must ensure fairness, objectivity and accurately reflect the merits and contributions of teachers to teaching and be linked to the achievements of students, classes and schools./.
