The Ministry of Education and Training has just issued Circular 05/2016/TT-BGDDT regulating the internship period according to the professional titles of teachers and lecturers.

This Circular stipulates the probationary period according to the professional titles of preschool teachers, primary school teachers, junior high school teachers, public high school teachers (collectively referred to as teachers), college lecturers, and public university lecturers (collectively referred to as lecturers).
This Circular applies to those who are recruited to work as teachers in preschools, general education institutions, continuing education institutions, and specialized schools; those who are recruited to work as lecturers in colleges (except vocational colleges), universities, academies, regional universities, and national universities in the national education system.
The Circular also clearly stipulates the probationary period according to the professional titles of teachers and lecturers. Accordingly, to be appointed to the professional titles of preschool teachers, successful candidates must complete a 6-month probationary period.
To be appointed to the professional titles of primary school teachers, successful candidates must complete a 6-month probationary period. To be appointed to the professional titles of secondary school teachers, successful candidates must complete a 9-month probationary period.
To be appointed to the professional titles of high school teachers, successful candidates must complete a 9-month probationary period. To be appointed to the professional titles of lecturers, successful candidates must complete a 12-month probationary period.
The maternity leave under the social insurance regime, sick leave of 03 days or more, summer vacation, Tet holiday, unpaid leave, time of temporary detention, temporary detention, temporary suspension from work according to the provisions of law of the successful candidate shall not be counted as the probationary period. The probationary period shall be continued immediately after the successful candidate has finished the maternity leave under the social insurance regime; has finished the sick leave; has finished the time of temporary detention, temporary detention, temporary suspension from work according to the provisions of the competent authority.
Candidates who are recruited as teachers or lecturers and have taught in educational institutions suitable for the recruited job position for 12 months or more do not have to perform a probationary period.
Candidates who are selected as lecturers with a doctorate degree and have participated in teaching during their time as postgraduate students will be considered by the head of the educational institution to shorten their internship period.
This Circular takes effect from May 6, 2016.
