Father prosecuted for giving motorbike to son causing accident
Mr. HVT was prosecuted for letting his son drive a motorbike without a driver's license as required by law and without being old enough to drive, leading to a traffic accident that killed one person.
On April 28, 2025, the Investigation Police Agency of Nam Dinh Provincial Police issued a decision to prosecute the criminal case, prosecute the accused and issue an Order prohibiting HVT (born in 1978; residing in Hai Hau district, Nam Dinh province) from leaving his place of residence for the act of "Allowing an unqualified person to drive a vehicle to participate in road traffic" as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 264 of the Penal Code 2015 (amended and supplemented in 2017).

According to the investigation, at around 6:30 a.m. on March 1, 2025, Mr. HVT's son, only 15 years and 28 days old, was driving a Honda Wave 110cc motorbike with a friend on the Hai Trung commune inter-axial road when he collided with a woman walking her dog across the road. As a result, the woman was thrown off, hit her head on the road and died before being taken to the emergency room.
At the Nam Dinh Provincial Police Investigation Agency, Mr. HVT admitted that even though he knew his child was not old enough to drive a vehicle according to the law, he still gave his child the motorbike to use, leading to the heartbreaking consequences above.
Through the above incident, Nam Dinh Provincial Police recommend that families pay attention, manage, and educate; and not give vehicles to their children who are not old enough to use them.
