As the holidays approach, Da Lat roses see a sharp price increase.
In Da Lat, the price of roses has increased by 4-6 times compared to normal days as Vietnamese Women's Day (October 20th) approaches.

Currently, the price of roses in Van Thanh hamlet has increased 4-6 times compared to normal days.
On the afternoon of October 16th, at Van Thanh flower village (Ward 5, Da Lat City, Lam Dong Province) - which supplies 80% of Da Lat's roses - most flower wholesalers reported that the prices of all types of flowers, especially roses, have increased 4-6 times compared to normal days leading up to Vietnamese Women's Day (October 20th).
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet (55 years old) – owner of Khanh Tuyet flower shop in Van Thanh hamlet, Ward 5, Da Lat city – said that red roses and moonlit roses, which normally cost 700-1,000 VND/flower, are now selling for 3,500-4,000 VND/flower. The price the shop owner sells them to traders from other places is 4,500-5,000 VND/flower.
Varieties such as orange roses, lotus roses, purple roses, yellow roses, etc., have also increased to 2,500-3,000 VND per flower, whereas on normal days they only cost 500-700 VND per flower.
Around this time in 2013, the highest price for red roses and moonlit roses was only 3,000 VND per flower, while other types of roses cost 2,000-2,500 VND per flower.
Flowers like marigolds, which normally cost around 400 VND per stem, have now increased to 2,200 VND per stem, while red anthuriums have risen from 6,000 VND to 8,000 VND per stem.
Several other types of flowers, such as salem, carnations, hydrangeas, lilies, and baby's breath, have also doubled in price compared to normal days.
Currently, the amount of roses purchased by wholesalers is insufficient to meet demand. Many farmers say that this year, the weather in Da Lat has been erratic, and many rose gardens have been affected by diseases such as powdery mildew, mildew, and red spider mites, causing a significant decrease in rose production compared to previous years.
By the afternoon of October 16th, most of the flowers had been exported to markets in Central and Northern Vietnam. The Ho Chi Minh City market, however, has not yet seen significant sales of roses.
Flower wholesalers predict that to meet holiday demand, the price of roses may increase by 500-1,000 VND per flower in the next two days.
