Killed neighbor with 14 stabs

(Baonghean.vn) - Due to a conflict over road construction, Cao Huu Binh used a knife to slash Mr. Hien many times. As a result, Mr. Hien died on the spot due to 14 slashes, a fractured skull, and multiple injuries.

On the morning of June 8, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened the first instance criminal trial of the murder case against Cao Huu Binh (born 1981), residing in Nghia Yen commune, Nghia Dan.

According to the indictment, there was a conflict between Cao Huu Binh and Mr. Doan Van Hien (same village) regarding the opening of a road to Mr. Hien's production land.

On the afternoon of December 17, 2016, Binh came home from spraying pesticides and met Mr. Hien. The two sides exchanged words, leading to a fight. Challenged by Mr. Hien, Binh used a knife to repeatedly slash the victim's head and face, causing him to fall down. Not stopping there, despite neighbors' intervention, Cao Huu Binh continued to slash Mr. Hien many times. As a result, Mr. Hien died on the spot due to 14 slashes, a fractured skull, and multiple injuries.

At the trial, Cao Huu Binh said that he was challenged by Mr. Hien, but that the killing of the victim was an “accident”. After the incident, Binh pressured the victim’s family to compensate the victim with 60 million VND.

The panel of judges determined that the crime committed by the defendant Cao Huu Binh was particularly serious, just because of a small conflict, he brutally took the life of Mr. Hien. However, after the incident, the defendant surrendered to the investigation agency, influenced the family to compensate for part of the victim's mental damage and funeral expenses, and confessed honestly... which should be considered to reduce part of the sentence.

Considering the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the panel sentenced Cao Huu Binh to life in prison. In addition, the court ordered the defendant to compensate the victim 111 million VND and provide monthly support for Mr. Hien’s mother 300,000 VND./.
