Killed someone for recalling a fight when he was 17 years old
(Baonghean.vn) - During a drinking session, Le Dinh Truong and Mr. B. mentioned the fight they had when they were 17 years old, leading to an argument. Despite being advised and escorted home by others, Truong still returned and stabbed Mr. B. to death.
On the afternoon of December 30, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Le Dinh Truong (born 1969), residing in Hoa Hop hamlet, Thanh Hoa commune (Thanh Chuong) for the crime of "Murder".
According to the investigation agency’s documents, at around 7:00 p.m. on August 18, 2019, Le Dinh Truong brought a knife to Mr. Tran Huu Loi’s house to sharpen it to cut a pipe. At this time, Mr. Hoi’s family was having a meal at home and invited guests.

Truong was sharpening his knife so he left his knife at the well and joined in the meal. While eating, Le Dinh Truong and Mr. Nguyen Tu B. (born in 1961) recalled the old story of when Truong was about 17 years old and was beaten by Mr. B. After that, the two argued. Seeing that, Mr. Hoi advised Truong to go home.
When Truong returned home, he heard from the neighbors that his nephew was out playing, so he wanted to go back to Mr. Hoi's house to drink more alcohol and get the knife he had forgotten. When he returned to Mr. Hoi's house, Truong went to the well to get the knife and put it in his belt, then sat at the table in the middle of the yard to drink water and talk with the homeowner and Mr. B.
Here, Truong continued to say to Mr. B. "What were you talking about just now?" Mr. B. said: "I hit you before, why are you talking like that?" Truong said: "If you're talking about the past, come out here." Mr. B. stood up, walked out to the yard and said: "If you want me to hit you again." Mr. B. raised his hand to punch Truong, but Truong pulled out a knife and stabbed Mr. B. once in the left rib.
Hearing the victim cry out, “I was stabbed and flew away,” some people ran to grab the knife from Truong’s hand. Having the knife taken away, Truong ran back to his house for a while and then hid in Duc Mountain, Thanh Hoa Commune. After hiding for a while, Truong went home to change his clothes and then went to the Commune Police to surrender, confessing to his crime. The autopsy report determined that the victim B. died from being stabbed in the lung and heart.
At the trial, the defendant confessed his crime. Truong said that because he was drunk and reminded of the past, he could not control his actions.
The panel of judges determined that the defendant Le Dinh Truong's "Murder" was a hooligan act. Because of a petty conflict, the defendant took the victim's life. In this case, the defendant had mitigating circumstances such as honest confession, good character, and family contributions to the revolution.
Considering the case as a whole, the court sentenced Le Dinh Truong to 20 years in prison for “Murder” (higher than the sentence recommended by the Procuracy). The defendant was required to compensate the victim’s family nearly 200 million VND (deducted from the amount already paid).
