Preserving and promoting the values of Nghe Tinh Soviet: From blood to write red history
Many times stopping before the mass grave of the Soviet martyrs of Nghe Tinh who died on September 12, 1930 in Thai Lao (Hung Nguyen commune), I was silent in the quiet space. The gentle wind seemed to carry the breath of the past, echoing the tragic call.
In that moment, I realized more deeply why the Nghe Tinh Soviet is called an immortal heroic epic and why that heritage needs to be preserved as a treasure of the whole nation.

Where the past fuels the present
In the flow of Vietnamese revolutionary history, the Nghe Tinh Soviet (1930 - 1931) was a brilliant milestone, affirming the invincible strength of the masses when they were enlightened and gathered under the Party's flag.
Although nearly a century has passed, that heroic epic still leaves behind lasting spiritual and political values, a priceless heritage of the Party, the nation, and the homeland of Nghe Tinh.
Preserving and promoting the Nghe Tinh Soviet Heritage today is not only a responsibility to show gratitude to our ancestors, but also a practical action to foster pride, courage and aspiration for today's and future generations.

Ms. Truong Que Phuong - former Deputy Director in charge of professional matters of the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum (now Nghe An Museum - Nghe Tinh Soviet), who has spent nearly 30 years researching and collecting documents and artifacts about the Soviet movement, recounted:
“Each artifact put on display is a difficult journey. Some artifacts require going to many villages and communes, asking each elder, comparing each time point and each location to avoid mistakes. We always consider it a reminder to respect historical truth down to the smallest detail.”

It was this carefulness and thoroughness that created a massive, accurate archive of documents, becoming the foundation for many scientific works on the Soviet movement, on Soviet mothers, and on struggles throughout Nghe An.
The poems of communist soldier Dang Chanh Ky seem to depict that spirit:“There, Ben Thuy stood up first/There, Thanh Chuong stood up next/Nam Dan, Nghi Loc, Hung Nguyen/Anh Son, Ha Tinh rose up at once...”.
Therefore, behind each book and each exhibition booth is the sweat and dedication of many generations of cadres, researchers, and revolutionary witnesses.

In that heritage system, the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum holds a particularly important position. Established in 1960 and officially inaugurated and opened to visitors for research and traditional education on September 12, 1963, the museum currently preserves more than 17,000 documents and artifacts associated with the Soviet movement and the revolutionary history of the homeland.

In particular, on February 3, 1964, President Ho Chi Minh signed the "Preface" to present to the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum - a testament to the great historical stature of the movement and the important role of the museum in preserving and promoting that value.
During the days when the whole Nghe An province was looking forward to the 95th anniversary of the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement, at the Nghe An - Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum, Ms. Le Thu Hien - Acting Director of the museum, received us with an enthusiastic voice and passionate eyes.

She shared about a series of activities that are taking place and will take place, and at the same time, revealed many cherished plans and projects to combine heritage conservation with innovation in communication and education methods; combining preserving traditions with developing tourism, culture, and socio-economy.
What the museum leader especially emphasized was the younger generation - those who will continue and revive historical memories. For her, the value of the Nghe Tinh Soviet cannot just stay in the museum, but needs to spread, permeate deeply into life, becoming a spiritual resource that lasts forever.

In 2020, when I attended the National Scientific Conference commemorating the 90th anniversary of the Nghe Tinh Soviet Movement, I was truly moved. The conference was jointly organized by the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, the Central Propaganda Department (now the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department), Nghe An Provincial Party Committee and Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee, with the theme: "Nghe Tinh Soviet: The power of the masses makes history".

Listening to the speech of Professor Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, now a member of the Politburo, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, the young generation born in peacetime like me understood it even more deeply.
It was the Soviet movement that opened the glorious history of the Vietnamese revolution, and for the first time our Party, when it was still very young, demonstrated its mettle, prestige, fighting power and ability to lead the masses. That was a powerful testament to the inevitable victory of the revolution and to the just struggle of our people.
From that foundation, I see more clearly the special attention of the Party and State in preserving and promoting the Nghe Tinh Soviet Heritage. The great joy is that recently, the Prime Minister signed a decision to rank the "Typical relic cluster in the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement (1930 - 1931) in Nghe An" as a special National Monument.
This relic complex includes 9 typical locations, from Ben Thuy intersection - where the worker-peasant demonstration broke out on May 1, 1930; to Vo Liet communal house - the headquarters of the Soviet government; or the place where the French army massacred the people of Hung Nguyen on September 12, 1930... Each location is like an immortal witness, contributing to recording the heroic sacrifice of the revolutionary masses of Nghe Tinh.

Comrade Tran Thi Kim Phuong - Head of Nghe An Monument Management Board emotionally shared: "The recognition of the relic cluster as a special National Monument is not only a historical recognition. For us, it is also a stick of incense offered to the souls of those who have fallen, a promise to continue to preserve and spread Soviet values to future generations."

Looking back on the journey of heritage preservation, I believe even more that, from cherishing each relic in the museum, from elaborate appraisal sessions with witnesses, to national-level scientific seminars and the ranking of a special National Monument today, all demonstrate the steadfast determination of our Party, State and People in preserving and promoting the Nghe Tinh Soviet as a sacred heritage. This is not only the memory of Nghe An and Ha Tinh, but also the common spiritual property of the entire Vietnamese nation.

The Nghe Tinh Soviet is forever an immortal heroic epic, a flame that fuels faith in the strength of the masses and the correct leadership of the Party.
Preserving and promoting that heritage means preserving the source of revolutionary strength, so that today we can stand firm on the path to socialism, continuing to write the heroic pages of the nation's history.
On the evening of September 12, Nghe An province organized the 995th anniversary of the name Nghe An (1030 - 2025), the 95th anniversary of the Nghe Tinh Soviet (September 12, 1930 - September 12, 2025) and received the Certificate of ranking as a special national monument for the typical relic cluster in the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement and launched the night experience show "Soviet Fire".
