The person selling orchids at high prices is Mr. Nguyen Van D., residing in block 8, Kim Son town, Que Phong district.
Mr. D. said that he bought the orchid in 2016 from a local orchid trader for 300,000 VND. In 2017, the orchid had 5 buds and flowers. At that time, orchid players in the area identified it as a mutant 5-petal Dendrobium orchid. When blooming, the flowers of this orchid have 5 white petals. The middle petal of the flower is light purple.

In 2017, someone came to buy it for more than 100 million VND but he did not agree to sell.
In 2018, the orchid had 6 buds and many people offered high prices. In early July, after much deliberation, he decided to sell the orchid to an orchid player in Hai Duong province for 600 million VND.
“Before, many people came to buy it at high prices, but I still wanted to keep it because I also like this flower. Although I have been growing orchids for many years, this is the first time I have seen such a special orchid pot,” Mr. D. said.

It was observed that Mr. Nguyen Van D.'s family has more than 100 large and small orchid pots with more than 30 different orchid species, but mainly the Phi Diep line. However, the Phi Diep line he just sold is completely different from the Phi Diep lines in Mr. D.'s orchid garden.
According to many long-time orchid players, genetically mutated orchids are different from normal orchids. The flowers of mutated orchids often have a different color than traditional orchids. Traditional orchids usually have 5 to 6 petals, light purple, the middle of the flower is dark purple. The flowers of mutated orchids are often white. The middle of the flower can be light purple or red dots... depending on each different mutant species. Mutated orchids bloom from April to July, unlike non-mutated orchids that usually bloom from February to March. This is the main reason why these varieties become valuable and attractive to orchid players.
