(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of July 25, in Vinh city, the Organizing Committee of the program "Red Journey - Connecting Vietnamese Blood" in 2017 coordinated with the Voluntary Blood Donation Mobilization Committee of Nghe An province to organize the festival "Red Drops of Nghe An".
The program “Red Journey - Connecting Vietnamese Blood” is organized annually by the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion with the aim of raising public awareness of voluntary blood donation and promoting the prevention of Thalassemia. At the same time, it overcomes the shortage of blood in emergency and treatment at health facilities nationwide.
The “Giot Hong Xu Nghe” festival is one of 28 major blood donation festivals of the “Red Journey - Connecting Vietnamese Blood 2017” campaign. The campaign’s goal in Nghe An is to attract 1,300 or more people to register for voluntary blood donation; it is expected to receive at least 1,000 units of safe blood. The donated blood will be transferred to the Central Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center.
“Red Journey - Connecting Vietnamese Blood” goes through 28 provinces and cities, of which Nghe An is the 17th city. This is a cross-country program with profound humanitarian significance, calling on all people to participate in donating blood to save lives; demonstrating the love, compassion, and sharing of the Vietnamese people. Through that, organizing blood donation activities aims to contribute significantly to overcoming the shortage of blood in emergency and medical treatment.
In 2016, Nghe An mobilized nearly 29,000 blood units, and in the first 6 months of 2017, 14,000 blood units were received. The “Red Blood Drops of Nghe An” have contributed to saving the lives of many patients in times of danger.
From early morning, thousands of young people and volunteers came to the blood donation registration location. Nguyen Thanh Chung shared: “Every time the Red Journey comes to Nghe An, I always participate in donating blood. I think "A drop of blood given - a life left behind" so I also hope that young people today will enthusiastically participate in voluntary blood donation so that we no longer have a blood shortage."
Mr. Pham Quang Vinh, Professor, Doctor, Deputy Director of the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion said: "Despite the bad weather due to the impact of storm No. 4, the number of people coming to "Giot Hong Xu Nghe" is very large. This is a good sign, showing that sharing and noble gestures are increasingly being multiplied in the community".
