Comments on the draft Law on Prevention and Control of Alcohol Harm
(Baonghean.vn) - Vietnam is among the countries with the highest rate of alcohol consumption in the world. The early promulgation of the Law on Prevention and Control of Alcohol Harm is very necessary.
On March 19, in Vinh city, the Ministry of Health coordinated with the National Assembly's Committee on Social Affairs to organize a workshop to collect opinions on the draft Law on Prevention and Control of Harmful Effects of Alcohol and Beer.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hien - Deputy Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Nghe An province, member of the National Assembly's Committee on Social Affairs, together with representatives of the Institute of Strategy and Policy, Department of Legal Affairs of the Ministry of Health chaired the workshop.

According to the report, in 2010, 70% of men and 6% of women over 15 years old in Vietnam drank alcohol. By 2015, this rate increased rapidly to 80.3% for men and 11.6% for women. The rate of drinking alcohol among minors also increased by 10% after 5 years. This is an alarming number... Alcohol is the root cause of many dangerous diseases, a burden on the economy.

At the workshop, the delegates all agreed that the promulgation of the Law on Prevention and Control of Alcohol Harm is necessary and urgent, especially when Vietnam is among the countries with the highest rate of men drinking alcohol in the world.

The draft law is highly feasible when it aims at controlling and managing alcoholic beverages. Accordingly, measures to reduce consumption, reduce harm, as well as manage the supply of alcohol and beer, and the responsibilities of agencies, organizations and individuals in preventing the harmful effects of alcohol and beer are also clearly stipulated in the draft law.

In order for the draft law to soon come into effect and achieve its goal of contributing to the successful implementation of the cause of protecting, caring for and improving people's health, within the framework of the workshop, 11 delegates participated in giving comments on the practicality of the law.
