Guam supports Pyongyang's 'punch in the nose'

(Baonghean.vn)-Guam Governor Eddie Calvo said on August 14 that “sometimes the only way to stop a bully is with a punch in the nose,” in what was seen as a strong defense of US President Donald Trump’s statements against North Korea, which is threatening to launch a missile attack on the US island.

While critics have accused President Trump of inflaming tensions with Pyongyang, Calvo expressed gratitude that the US leader is taking a strong stance against North Korea's threat to target his Pacific homeland.

“Anyone who grew up in elementary school knows what a thug is,” Calvo said. “(North Korean leader) Kim Jong-un is a thug with some very powerful weapons… a thug must be dealt with strongly.”

Governor Calvo, a Republican, said President Trump was being unfairly criticized for his handling of the North Korea crisis, which has escalated since Pyongyang, in a “decisive warning,” said it was planning to launch missiles toward Guam.

Mr. Calvo pointed out that North Korea has threatened to attack Guam – a US territory that is home to two major military bases and more than 6,000 troops – at least three times since 2013. He stressed that previous presidents have also used tough language to warn Pyongyang, noting that former President Obama asserted last year that “we can, obviously, destroy North Korea with our arsenal.”
