The highly anticipated Rome Masters final between world number one and clay court king Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic unfortunately did not live up to expectations.

Nadal, despite being in fairly good form at the tournament, struggled immensely against Djokovic on the surface where he is known as the king.

Right from the first set, Nadal was constantly pressured by Novak, being pushed deep into both corners of the court. It took a tremendous effort for the Spaniard to successfully return Djokovic's powerful smashes. He fell behind but still finished the first set victorious with a score of 6-4.

But that was all Nadal could do. Djokovic played the remaining two sets effortlessly. Calmly, he unleashed powerful shots to the baseline, rushed the net, and used drop shots to force Nadal to make continuous long runs, quickly exhausting him. The final two sets ended with the same score of 6-3 in favor of Djokovic, and in their 41st encounter, Djokovic narrowed the gap to 22-19 (22 losses, 19 wins).

With his current form, Djokovic is challenging all the top players at the second-largest Grand Slam of the year, Roland Garros, which will take place from May 25th to June 8th.

In the women's singles final, world number one Serena Williams easily defeated her opponent Sara Errani with set scores of 6-3, 6-0.
