(Baonghean.vn)- Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene said that any spending bill that combines US border security with increased military aid to Ukraine amid its conflict with Russia would be “a slap in the face” to the American people.

US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced over the weekend that he will hold a vote on President Joe Biden's request for $106 billion in military aid to Ukraine and Israel in the first week of December.

Schumer said the Biden administration has so far failed to pass additional “national security” proposals, and the “biggest problem” is opposition from Republicans who insist additional aid to Kiev should be paired with funding for security at the US-Mexico border.

Meanwhile, Ms. Greene wrote on X on November 28: “Our border is the worst national security crisis in American history.”

The number of people illegally crossing the US-Mexico border surpassed the daily average of more than 8,000 in September, according to the AP. However, the flow of border crossings has dropped about 14% since then.

“Ukraine is not the 51st state,” she said. “America’s border security should not come at the expense of funding a failing war in Ukraine.”

The congresswoman criticized Democrats for opposing Republicans' push for more spending and increased security at the border.

“Americans do not support the war in Ukraine and do not want to continue funding Ukraine... So any bill that combines our border security with billions more dollars for Ukraine is a slap in the face to the American people,” Greene stressed.

The Biden administration has provided Ukraine with more than $76 billion in military aid and other support since the conflict between Moscow and Kiev began last February. But Washington recently acknowledged that money was running out as some Republicans refused to support any new aid to Ukraine.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who visited Kiev last week, announced a new shipment of weapons and ammunition worth just $100 million. The American public also appears to be losing support for Ukraine, with a recent AP-NORC poll finding that about 45% of Americans believe Washington is sending too much money to Kiev.
