Hanoi FC unexpectedly changed generals on the 29th of Tet

Mr. Hoang Anh Phuc was appointed Acting Head Coach of Hanoi FC from January 28.

Hanoi FC currently has 17 points after 11 rounds, 5 points behind the top team Thanh Hoa. The "change of general" is nothing more than creating a new wind, helping Hanoi FC return to the championship race this season.

Mr. Hoang Van Phuc is a familiar face to Vietnamese football, having been given the position of Head Coach of the Vietnam National Team, helping Quang Nam Club win the 2017 V-League Championship, before taking on the role of Technical Director at Hanoi FC from 2021 to present.

Acting head coach Hoang Van Phuc will introduce himself to the Hanoi players on the gathering day of January 31, the third day of the Lunar New Year, before having his first match against defending champion Nam Dinh on February 5 in the early match of round 13.

In the opposite direction, his predecessor Le Duc Tuan and his colleagues will receive new tasks at the Hanoi Youth Football Training Center.

VFF assigns targets to U22 Vietnam at SEA Games 33

The 33rd SEA Games is scheduled to take place from December 9 to 20, 2025 in Thailand, with football comprising all four disciplines: men's football, women's football, men's futsal and women's futsal.

On January 25, Thailand announced the age limit for men's football with the regulation of only using U22 players (born from 2003 onwards) and not using over-age players like previous tournaments.

The Vietnam Football Federation has anticipated this and planned to prepare for the U22 team very early. Over the past time, the young players have been continuously given the opportunity to gather and train at the same time as the national team's FIFA Days.

Regarding the achievements at the SEA Games, Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan - Chairman of VFF expressed his wish: "The U22 Vietnam team will be given maximum conditions, with training trips and friendly matches to have the best preparation for the 33rd SEA Games at the end of 2025, inheriting from the preparation in 2025.

The challenge is huge but we still set the immediate goal of reaching the men's football final and aiming for the highest achievement."

Core of the Team U22 VietnamParticipating in SEA Games 33 are young players born in 2003-2005, including a pair of national team players such as Bui Vi Hao and Khuat Van Khang. Besides, there are also some faces playing well in the colors of clubs in V-League such as Thai Son, Trung Kien and Dinh Bac.

According to the plan, at the first gathering in 2025 on the occasion of FIFA Days next March, the Vietnam U22 team will participate in the international U22 football tournament in China, with the participation of 4 U22 teams including host U22 China, Vietnam U22 and 2 quality guest U22 teams that will be announced in the next few days.

Cambodia uses "rice-powered VAR"

The Cambodian National Championship officially uses a system of 6 referees in matches, to improve quality and ensure fairness. This is the solution chosen by the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC) to save costs, instead of using VAR technology.

Each match will be officiated by a team of 6 referees, including 3 on-field referees (the main referee and 2 assistant referees), 1 fourth referee who will be responsible for technical support, substitution management and 2 additional assistant referees (AARs) who will stand on the 2 goal lines.

AARs will play a key role in determining whether the ball has completely crossed the line – one of the most contentious issues in football, as well as assisting the referee in his decision-making regarding situations in the penalty area.

VAR has become the standard in many major tournaments around the world. However, the cost of implementing and operating this technology is not small, causing difficulties for many countries with developing football like Cambodia.

In V.League, VAR will be officially applied from the 2023/24 season. By the 2024/25 season this year, VAR will be applied in most matches in all rounds./.
