Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City among the world's cheapest backpacking destinations
Travel website Priceoftravel has published a list of the cheapest destinations in the world, with Hanoi ranking second and Ho Chi Minh City ranking fifth.
Recently, the Priceoftravel website published a list of the world's most expensive and cheapest cities for backpackers in 2014. The cheapest is Pokahara, Nepal, with an average cost of only 14.32 USD per day (about 300,000 VND). Hanoi ranked second on the list with a cost of 15.88 USD per day (more than 330,000 VND). Chiang Mai, Thailand ranked third with a total cost of 17.66 USD per day (more than 370,000 VND).

Goa, India ranked fourth with 18.25 USD (over 380,000 VND). Ho Chi Minh City ranked fifth with 18.27 USD (about 385,000 VND). Kathmandu, Nepal ranked sixth with a daily cost of about 18.46 USD (nearly 400,000 VND). Vientiane, Laos ranked seventh. The next three cities in the top 10 cheapest places were Delhi (India), Luang Prabang (Laos) and Bangkok, Thailand.

Meanwhile, Priceoftravel also announced the most expensive cities for tourists. Topping the list of cities for the "rich" is Zurich (Switzerland). On average, tourists spend 122.22 USD (more than 2.5 million) per day.
Second place is Stockholm, Sweden with a cost of up to 109.69 USD (more than 2.2 million). The capital of Norway - Oslo is third, Interlaken (Switzerland) is fourth, Venice (Italy) is fifth. Sharing the next 5 positions are New York (USA), London (UK), Caracas (Venezuela), Helsinki (Finland) and Copenhagen (Denmark).

The average daily cost is calculated based on each traveler's total daily expenditure for accommodation at a cheap hostel, three cheap meals, two public transport trips, admission to one tourist attraction and three cheap beers.
