Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City rank among the world's cheapest backpacking destinations.

The travel website Priceoftravel has published a list of the cheapest destinations in the world, with Hanoi ranking second and Ho Chi Minh City fifth.

Recently, the website Priceoftravel published a list of the world's most expensive and cheapest cities for backpackers in 2014. The cheapest was Pokhara, Nepal, with an average daily cost of only $14.32 (approximately 300,000 VND). Hanoi came in second with a cost of $15.88/day (over 330,000 VND). Chiang Mai, Thailand, ranked third with a total cost of $17.66/day (over 370,000 VND).

Goa, India, ranks fourth with $18.25 (over 380,000 VND). Ho Chi Minh City ranks fifth with $18.27 (approximately 385,000 VND). Kathmandu, Nepal, ranks sixth with a daily cost of around $18.46 (nearly 400,000 VND). Vientiane, Laos, ranks seventh. The next three cities in the top 10 cheapest destinations are Delhi (India), Luang Prabang (Laos), and Bangkok, Thailand.

Meanwhile, Priceoftravel also published a list of the most expensive cities for tourists. Leading the list of cities exclusively for the wealthy is Zurich (Switzerland). On average, tourists spend $122.22 (over 2.5 million VND) per day.

Second is Stockholm, Sweden, with a cost of up to $109.69 (over 2.2 million VND). Oslo, the capital of Norway, ranks third, Interlaken (Switzerland) fourth, and Venice (Italy) fifth. The next five positions are shared by New York (USA), London (UK), Caracas (Venezuela), Helsinki (Finland), and Copenhagen (Denmark).

Zurich is the most expensive city in the world for backpackers.

The average daily cost is calculated based on the total daily expenses of each traveler for accommodation in a budget guesthouse, three inexpensive meals, two public transport rides, entrance fees to one tourist attraction, and three inexpensive beers.
