Launching more modern coast guard ships
On the morning of October 4 in Da Nang City, Song Thu Corporation (General Department of Defense Industry) held a launching ceremony for Coast Guard ship 8002.

Coast Guard Vessel 8002, newly built at Song Thu Corporation, is the second vessel to be delivered to the Vietnam Coast Guard. The keel-laying ceremony for this vessel was held in June 2012.
During the construction process, Song Thu Corporation has overcome many difficulties and challenges, especially in moving and building a new shipyard. With determination and the highest effort, the unit has now completed the construction of one of the most modern ships for the Vietnam Coast Guard today.
The ship operates in weather conditions with sea waves of level 9 and wind of level 12. The continuous operating time at sea is 40 days and nights, with an operating range of 5,000 nautical miles. The ship has the largest length: 90.5 m; largest width: 14 meters; height: 7 meters; maximum draft: 4 meters; capacity: 12,016 horsepower; maximum speed: 21 nautical miles/hour.
In addition, the ship has a parking space for a 14-ton helicopter, rescue and life-saving equipment; medical equipment; fire-fighting equipment; towing equipment...

The construction and operation of the CSB 8002 ship aims to strengthen the equipment of the Vietnam Coast Guard, meeting the increasing demand in performing the tasks of protecting sovereignty over seas and islands, patrolling, inspecting, controlling, maintaining law enforcement, preventing environmental pollution, protecting aquatic resources and seafood; rescue; overcoming incidents at sea, creating favorable conditions for fishermen to confidently go offshore.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung, Deputy Minister of National Defense, praised the efforts, hard work, creativity, and overcoming of all difficulties of the staff and workers of Song Thu Corporation to successfully complete the assigned tasks.
The Senior Lieutenant General emphasized that despite the economic difficulties, the Party and State always pay close attention to the task of ensuring national defense and security, including investing in the armed forces in general and the Vietnam Coast Guard in particular with increasingly modern equipment and means.
The General requested Song Thu Corporation to continue to closely coordinate with the Vietnam Coast Guard Command and relevant agencies to focus on inspecting and completing the following contents to soon put the CSB 8002 into operation. Thereby, contributing to ensuring that the Coast Guard performs its tasks of patrolling, protecting the sovereignty of seas and islands, and enforcing the law in the seas and continental shelf of our country in the coming time.
