US House of Representatives approves ban on recognizing Crimea as part of Russia
The US House of Representatives has approved a bill that would prohibit the White House from recognizing Russia's sovereignty over Crimea, the House press office said.
It should be noted that the House of Commons approved the Bill on non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea with 427 votes in favor, with only one MP voting against.
Earlier, the House Foreign Affairs Committee unanimously passed a bill prohibiting the White House from recognizing Crimea as part of Russia. According to the text of the document, Washington "does not recognize Russian sovereignty over Crimea, as well as the airspace and territorial waters of the peninsula.
At the same time, the bill contains an exception for the president: he will be able to violate this rule if it meets the national security interests. If the bill is approved by both houses of the US Congress, the document will be sent to the president for signature.
