Accordingly, at 4:00 a.m. on April 4, the temple discovered that Ms. Trinh Thi Quay (65 years old, temporarily residing in An Dong commune) and her granddaughter Tran Minh Anh (6 years old) drowned in the temple pond.
An Dong Commune Police were present to protect the scene so that the authorities could investigate and clarify the cause of death. After examining the scene and performing an autopsy, the authorities handed over the bodies of the grandmother and grandchild to their families for funeral arrangements.
According to Mr. Dai, Mrs. Quay is from Vinh Bao but lives alone in An Dong commune, and usually helps with temple work. Because Mrs. Quay's daughter went to Korea after her divorce, Minh Anh returned to live with her grandmother.
On April 3, Mrs. Quay brought her grandchild to Linh Quang Pagoda to stay overnight. At 4 a.m., the pagoda discovered that both grandmother and grandchild had died in the pond.
