Two sisters died from drowning.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the evening of June 26th, a tragic drowning incident occurred in Trung Luong hamlet, Tan Xuan commune, Tan Ki district, resulting in the deaths of two sisters.

The victims were two siblings: Truong Thi Lien (9 years old) and Truong Van Hieu (9 years old), children of Mr. Truong Van Tri, residing in Trung Luong hamlet, Tan Xuan commune, Tan Ky district (Nghe An province). Ms. Truong Thi Nghe, also residing in Tan Luong hamlet, stated that at approximately 5:30 PM, the two siblings went to a grassy area 200 meters from their house to fly kites. Unfortunately, the younger brother slipped and fell into a deep water hole. Seeing this, the older sister jumped in to rescue him, but because she didn't know how to swim, both siblings drowned. Their bodies were discovered around 7 PM.

Reportedly, the pit was dug by locals to irrigate their watermelons; it is 2-3 meters deep but has no fence around it.

Upon receiving the news, local authorities, teachers from the school, and residents came to pay their respects. On the morning of June 27th, the family held a funeral for the two children.

It is known that the two children lived with their grandmother; their mother passed away early, and their father worked far away. Upon hearing the news of their children's deaths, the grandmother only managed to return home on the evening of the 26th to see them.
