Two police officers arrested for beating young man to death in prison

Five Ninh Thuan police officers were prosecuted, two of whom were detained, on charges of beating a young man to death in detention.

On the afternoon of November 24, Colonel Huynh Cam - Deputy Director of Ninh Thuan Police Department said that the Supreme People's Procuracy's investigation agency had prosecuted and detained Mr. Ho Ba Dong and Ngo Van Sang (two judicial protection officers of Phan Rang - Thap Cham City Police) for the crime of Torture. Three other officers were also prosecuted for the same crime but were released on bail.

These police officers were accused of beating to death Vo Tan Minh (25 years old) at the Phan Rang - Thap Cham City Police Detention Center, Ninh Thuan Province.

According to records, in April, Minh was arrested by Ninh Thuan police, prosecuted for illegal drug trafficking and detained in Thuan Bac district.

On the morning of September 8, Minh was taken to the detention house of Phan Rang - Thap Cham City Police. Several hours later, officers discovered that he was injured and immediately transferred him to the provincial hospital. At 5:00 p.m. the same day, the suspect died.

Previously, in September, the Supreme People's Procuracy's Investigation Agency initiated a case of torture. Ninh Thuan police temporarily suspended 5 judicial protection officers and soldiers of Phan Rang - Thap Cham City Police to serve the investigation.
