The remains of a boy nicknamed "alien child skeleton" were found near the village of Yakovenkovo in eastern Crimea, RT reported.
The grave of a boy dating back to the 2nd century was a major find during the recent expedition, according to anthropologists. The boy had an artificially elongated skull. The severe deformation of the skull has led to the grave being called an “alien grave,” according to the Archaeology Fund, an organization that excavates in central Russia, Crimea and North Africa.
Cranioplasty, a form of body modification, was common in many ancient cultures. It was often performed on newborns, who had relatively soft skulls. However, conspiracy theorists have suggested that the owners of elongated skulls may be human-alien hybrids.
According to archaeologists, skull deformation is a typical feature of the Sarmatians who once lived in the Crimea region. They hypothesize that the Sarmatians used this method to identify members of a group or people of high social status.
The archaeological team also unearthed a ceramic jar and small beads buried with the remains, next to a bronze bracelet worn on the boy's right hand. Several burial sites dating from the 1st to 3rd centuries and a group of stone tombs suspected to belong to high-ranking people in the ancient Bosporan Kingdom that existed from the 5th century BC to the 7th century were also discovered near the boy's grave./.
